two rotors are used to stabilize i guess...traditional choppers have that small rotor at the end for spinning around, but getting correct amount of rotation for that small rotor is hard. so i guess by having two giant rotors and no small one at tail, they are now able to fly with less chance of tail rotor going nuts.

Doesn't look as cool though. The double rotors make it look like someone was trying to hard to make the thing "futuristic".

Make a jet ranger! That way we could have a Civil chopper!

Rest assured that the day a Russian engineer decides to make something look "futuristic", for no other reason, will never come smile.gif The advantages of counter-rotating rotors are numerous, but I don't know the specifics of them all. The one that first comes to mind is that this design, apart from obviously eliminating the tail rotor, is that it eliminates retreating-blade stall. This is a big thing for an attack helicopter, since it´s top speed is increased and it can make more drastic direction changes at speed. It also produces vastly superior hovering characteristics. There are of course disadvantages, but the design is not an effort to be different.

I seem to remember someone making a model of the KA-50, but it was many months ago.

The ka-52 is one of the safest choppers. It's less vulnerable because it doesn't have tail rotor, and it's one of the few choppers with ejection seat (well, sort of; the whole cabin is ejected, like in the f-117).

Ruskies have mi-17 and mi-24. C'mon! BIS should release more russian choppers in an official addon! Yankees have 3 scoped assault rifles (g-36, steyr aug and xms) + loads of 'em on unofficial addons, and the russians have none official, and i've never seen one on unofficial addons. Somebody make an ak-74 with 4x sight! or an an-94 abakan!<span id='postcolor'>

Not that I disagree...I would love to see more Russian stuff, but the fact that in the OFP universe the Amerians have more choppers reflects that in reality the Americans have more choppers. That is because the American choppers tend to be specialised (ie, Blackhawk for fast transport, Kiowa for recon, Apache for rapid armour attack, etc) whereas the Russians designed their choppers to be multiroled. The Mi-24 Hind is one of the fastest and toughest military helicopters in existance, it also carries a large payload and can carry troops (name a US chopper that is that capable). The Mi-17 is, although not as fast and presents a larger target, also multitalented whilst carrying hundreds of rockets.

I don't consider the G36 and Steyr to be taken seriously. I think they were just fun addons by BIS (possably taken from early VBS?), neither weapons have ever been used by the US Army (Steyr is used by US Custom service) and the G36 wasn't around in 1985 and thus wasn't added into the Flashpoint Campaign (although was strangly put into Red Hammer).

I would love to have a OV-10 too...but not instead of Konyak-2's plane...they are completely different aircraft and not comparable beyond them both having two fixed wings...

Time period is of no relavence. I rarely see unofficial addons designed specifically to fit the 1985 theme...and few of the recent official ones were. The M2A2 wasn't (M2 Bradley was), either was the OH-58D (All other OH-58 models were....but BIS used the OH-58D design), G36e, M1A1 (although that wasn't an addon...I am guessing that was a mistake on behalf of BIS, or they chose to replace the original M1 Abrams with the M1A1 to balance the sides a little)...there are others I think.

i know the games called flashpoint 1985 but if we all just downloaded mods in the period of 1985 there isnt much room for scope why wait till some one does an entire mod for the game just download approprate troops and vechiles and use em stop restricting this game to 1985 and dont wait forever for full game mods geez

Hey, i said i would like it better, not that i don't like konyak's plane. In fact, i look forward very much to have it. The cessna sucks for dropping paratroopers, and i don't like parachuting from choppers very much. Also it could serve for CAS, forward air controller or even as a light gunship (maybe some ffars or a side mounted m-60?)
