Multiplayer

Recommended Posts

Ok, evertime I play OPF multiplayer, it almost always says "no messages recieved for ... seconds" and after it says that for a bit, it says "connection lost".

This almost always happens while I am in the lobby or during mission breifing.

If not then, it happens during the game.

I cannot play online because this happens all the time.

Why does this always happen? I am using the all seeing eye and I have a really fast connection through my college dorm.

If anyone knows how I can fix this, please help.

If you're going through a router you're screwed. It's that simple.

That's not true. I play through a router, as do many other people here, and if there is a problem with playing on a home network with a router, it most likely is a configuration problem (i.e. pilot error). Routers with built-in firewalls or NAT/PAT may need to be configured to allow OFP or any other game to be played, but that doesn't mean it is impossible.

Regardless, the "No message received for n seconds" message is perfectly normal on client systems during certain times. For example, while the participants are reading the briefing, the message will be generated because after the mission itself has been sent, but before the game has started, there are no updates that must be sent to the clients.

If such a message is received during a game, however, it points to a real problem. Possible causes are network problems, configuration problems with the client, a crashed server, or a server that can't keep up with the number of clients due to insufficient network bandwidth or CPU power.

(Edited to fix a typo)

I don't understand.

All I know is that after it gets up to like "no message recieved for 60 seconds" it disconnects me.

Even in the mission breifing stage.

Someone tell me what to do to fix this, PLEASE!!!

I cannot play online because this always happens.

This has not happened only like 5 times since I downloaded the all seeing eye. Which I did like 2 months ago! And those times are times that I actually got to play.

True Mr. Frag....allow me to correct myself on my earlier statement.  If you're using a rather cheap router with a Dynamic IP and trying to run more than one computer at a time, you're screwed biggrin.gif .  Basically, it might be that your school's setup simply won't work for you IceFire.  I'd try it out on a modem and see if it works that way.  While I'd like to think a school setup is better quality then that...you never know....I'd imagine it's more of a firewall problem than anything else...Never trust a network you didn't setup yourself.

More help please. I still want to play online ofcourse.

What do I do?

Is there anyway for me to do some setting up so that it works?

Keep in mind that I have not fiddled with anything. So maybe that will help.

Find an understanding network administrator, and find out if the school is blocking DirectPlay traffic -- you can find a list of ports that need to be open in Avon Lady's OFP FAQ.

Also, run DXDIAG.EXE and make sure that there are no problems reported in the Network tab. If possible, try to connect to another system running DXDIAG.EXE outside of the school's network using port 2234.

Ok, just to let you know, it's not as if I cannot play. I do get in rarely.

But usually, it's says connection lost.

Also, I don't understand how to do those things? What do you mean?
