Beta Patch and slow internet connection

Recommended Posts

Hello,

since the bandwidth change

[68030] MP: Changed bandwidth estimation defaults as almost all players use broadband connection.

Ive got heavy lags and desync. Bigger mission -> heavier lags.

Examples:

Warfare (tested with 3 players)

In the beginning there are small lags (round every 60 seconds). The lags getting heavier and after 20-30 mins of playing I lose the connection. If I try to reconnect im getting kicked because of timeout.

AAS (tested with 6 players)

I can play 30-60 seconds without lags. Then it starts to lag and 1 minute long everything freezes (players running but dont move). While that "freeze" im also very laggy in teamspeak. After that I can play again 30-60 secons and it lags again. This happened repeatedly, the whole time.

Domination (tested with 10 players)

I can play 60 seconds then theres again the "freeze" (round 30 seconds). This is repeating also the whole time.

Without the beta patch it runs much better.

I cant use a better connection, because in my village is befor 2011 no better connection available.

Information about my connection:

Download: 384kbit/s (48kb/s)

Upload: 64kbit/s (8kb/s)

The speedtests are always "good" (how good it can be with this connection )

Results of the speedtests:

1.

Download: 376kbit/s (47kb/s)

Upload : 82kbit/s (10kb/s)

2.

Download: 376kbit/s (47kb/s)

Upload : 81kbit/s (10kb/s)

At the moment its no problem because I can turn off the beta but with patch 1.06 I cant change it anymore (am I right?)

Is there any possibility to use the old "netsettings" with the patch 1.06?

New default is 64000 (64kbps), which should still be well in your upload speed. If you, however, for any reason need to change this, you can specify minBandwidth=xxxx in your ArmA2.cfg file.

Alright, thank you.

Maybe Teamspeak(2) and ArmA is too much for my connection.

Does minBandwidth mean, that this bandwidth is always used? But what is if ArmA needs more upload than this? Could it be more than 64kbps or wont it use more than this?

It means that the server expects to have that bandwidth available at all times, although it may not always be used. There is also a maxBandwidth setting.

You might want to check out the basic.cfg page in the Biki.

Is there any reason to change it, say, if you have a much faster upload connection than 64kbps?

excellent :)

How about 80+ players in the game?

+ TS3 for teamplay (VON = lags)

Big games have ended?

Or each of these players should reconfigure cfg-file?

I thought people in my country are the most unfortunate when it comes to internet. You made me feel fortunate to have a 1.5Mbps / 1,500kb/s / 180kB/s connection(0.18Mbps upload) :)

I thought I read somewhere Germany was going to upgrade their broadband speed to a faster one for the whole nation something like a 10Mbps connection as norm.

as far as I know upload speed is CRUCIAL for the server while download speed is more crucial for the other players.
