Ravvie 10 Posted May 12, 2010 Hey Guys As this is my first post! I'm not 100% if this is meant to go in here my apologies if its wrong :) I have the x52 pro joystick and throttle and would like to know if anyone else has this set up :) I'm sort of a inexperienced pilot have had some practice on PR for BF2 nothing special tho, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out in anyway who flys to get myself in the sky's? Thanks in advance and its appreciated :) Ravvie
Sardaukar17 10 Posted May 12, 2010 I have been flying since OFP was out and I never used a joystick. I admit though it is hard to fly using a Mouse. I have had a track ball for ages and never had a problem banking a chopper around trees 10 feet off the ground. One thing that might help is to take a look at your ingame sensitivity settings and find a combination that fits your comfort zone.. and of course practice. Pull up some choppers in the Armory. Some of the most common ones flown in the missions I have seen are the Huey, Cobra, and BlackHawk. They all fly a little different just as they would in the real world. The smaller it is though the easier it is (in my opinion) to learn how to fly on.
zad fnark 10 Posted May 12, 2010 I use an X52. (IL-2, LOMAC) Back with OFP, I found the mouse and keyboard easier to fly the choppers. I did use the throttle for airplanes, to keep the engine settings constant. The stick never really "felt" right in OFP, like there was something between my input and the result. Using the mouse/keyboard combo here, it was easy to swing a chopper 180 degrees to bleed off speed and land it on a dime. Since ArmA1, I've only used the stick for all aircraft. It's nice to use the rocker switches on the front of the stick for flaps and landing gear. I use the wheel on the throttle and the pinky switch on the stick for any action menu stuff. Ravvie 10 Posted May 12, 2010 Hi there fellas! Thanks for your replies! Zad, There is a thread here that has a profile that maybe decent to use i haven't personally tried it at 100% yet and to be honest i cant see any difference with it? Id ideally like to keep the throttle in game as i play with it on Project Reality with helos and it works ok, altho i must admit i hear plenty of people saying that they use Mouse and Keys to fly.. To both of you if you have XFire add me mines RavageWolve, Maybe when you got some time spare we could go for a flight? maybe help me set up some keys to my JS and Throttle? Im free today for a bit so if ur around feel free to please add me :) Thanks again guys! Ravvie!
Sardaukar17 10 Posted May 12, 2010 I don't have Xfire but you can find me on Steam with the same login name Sardaukar17. I was actually thinking about making a simple PvP map using jets with the missiles removed. Thought it would be fun to have a good old fashion dog fight. If you want I can message you when I have testable version. It wouldn't take much at all to throw in a couple of helicopters and join the same team. We could see which is better. (lol the bummer is that just before logging on today my trackball that I have had for like 10 years committed suicide on a tile floor. Need to go shopping
Master gamawa 0 Posted May 12, 2010 I have a similar question. I have a Microsoft Force Feedback steering wheel and a logitech joystick (with throttles and shit). Could I use both at the same time in Arma 2? Now.. I wouldn't do that cause it would be kinda stupid... But could I? I step into a car/tank... bring the steering wheel in front of me and drive away. And have the joystick on the side ready for some chopper/aircraft action. Man that would be hell to configure I guess.
Bulldogs 10 Posted May 12, 2010 Hmm... I think it's possible. Effectively when you go into controls you can choose the control set (ground vehicles, air, infantry) then from that click on each one and set it to something on your wheel or stick. Haven't done it myself with 2 devices though. I use the Logitech Xtreme 3D Pro stick for flying and had to manually set up a lot of it (throttle was automatically set but had to setup twisting the stick and the buttons to certain aspects of the craft)

You absolutely could, but it might prove really difficult to keep all devices zero'd out while in infantry mode.
