My FPS troubles.

Recommended Posts

OK, I want to find out whether I should be getting more FPS than what I am, I get around 20 FPS with all settings on medium and view distance at about 1500. Here are my system specs.

Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 (64bit)

Pentium DuelCore CPU E5200 @2.5ghz

2GB RAM

Nvidia GeForce 9800gt

150GB HDD

Any thoughts on whether I should be getting a higher FPS?

According to my computer I have two of the same 2.5ghz cpu. Does it mean that each core is 2.5ghz?

this: Pentium DuelCore CPU E5200 @2.5ghz is going to be your major chokepoint. You're going to need a faster processor.

He said his computer said he has two of the same processor though, so wouldn't that make it not be a choke point with him having two? (I know nothing about computers.)

A Dualcore CPU is not two processors. It's one processor with two cores. And yes that means each of the two cores runs @ 2.5GHz.

While it's still better than the minimum requirements but with only 2.5 GHz I would not expect too much. ArmA II depends on a fast CPU.

I'm not exactly computer handy but I'm really annoyed about one thing. When I came to buying the parts for the computer I didn't know what was good and what was a load of junk. So my friend who claims to be a computer know-it all writes a list of all the best parts I could get within my budget. I get all the ones he writes down and I had 75 pounds left afterwards so I assumed I had hit a really good deal. That 75 pound could of went towards a better processor, I hate that guy sometimes. Thanks anyway guys, I'll try some performance tweaks which some people have been doing.

Don't hate him but be happy you have one at hand who can give you a hand. :)

You could start by setting all details to medium. The game still looks pretty good even without everything set to max. The 2.5 GHz CPU ain't that crap, I run it with a 2.8 GHz quadcore with a mix of normal and high settings. Setting the postprocessing to low might help a lot.

In the end it's just finding the right balance between good performance and acceptable detail levels.

Running a 64bit OS with only 2GB RAM makes no sense though. ;)

SASMonk, what res are you playing on? Try slightly lower res.

AntiAliasing is also a big FPS killer. Try LOW or even disabled.

Check Nvidia settings to make sure V-Sync is OFF

Thanks W0lle, and @EDcase I usually play on 1280x960 but recently tried 1650x? (can't remember the second res factor) it ran OK and looked fantastic, I will edit my config because I've found a few tweaks and a noBlur+noBloom mod, thanks guys.
