oldbear 390 Posted April 20, 2010 I do not clearly understand what your post is about. Is it about using railways tracks as objects on a map or is it about creating new/textured railways tracks ? I can say nothing about the 2nd part for I am no addon-maker. As a map maker, I have used the railways tracks objects on my own Sbrodj map, so I can speak about that experiment. The tracks must be laid, as in RL, on a flat surface, so before of after laying your tracks yo must level the terrain. As the rail tracks are not road but objects you must take a lot of time to stitch part together well, so I suggest to flatten the terrain before placing the tracks. To flatten the terrain, you can : - use the "Terrain vertices" option for straight N/S or W/E parts - build a road where you want a track to be laid, use the "smooth road" script with the "fixed height" option. After having laid the tracks, welded perfectly, you can use the "set height" script in order to insure all the part are on the same level.

ferst 10 Posted April 20, 2010 is it possible to "Terrain vertices" turn the selection ???
ferst 10 Posted April 21, 2010 to me this method does not work, the map is too hilly ...
oldbear 390 Posted April 26, 2010 That's why we build tunnels, bridges and cuttings for railways in the real life ^^. As we can't build decent tunnel on ArmA maps, the only way is to follows rivers and then goes through mountains by a deep cutting. I believe (not tested yet) you can make the track climbing a gentle slope by using the "rails_down_25" part, too bad it's only available in straight parts. oldbear 390 Posted May 5, 2010 Well, I have tested how to climb a slope with railways ... it works with the rail up and down parts but the only slope yo can get is around 2,5% and only on straight parts ... quite unrealistic. The process to stitch together the various rail tracks parts is rather tedious, so I suggest you not to plan railways on your mountain map ...
