Control

Recommended Posts

OK, if you're going to let us customize the controls, why not let us customize all of the controls? Sorry if I come across as pissed, but I am. This is a pet peeve of mine. I go and spend 45-50 bucks for a game that when I get into customizing the controls for, I can't remap the primary mouse button?

Everybody's got their own key configs. I happen to use the left mouse button for forward movement, the right for backwards movement. I've used this in every game worth my time to play, and I'm not going to change for one game.

I did manage to get out to my Intellimouse Explorer software and remap my left mouse to be "Page Down" and the scroll-click to be "Click." That way I could use the left mouse button to send "Page Down" to the system, and map "Page Down" to be my forward movement command, but this is a PAIN. Not only do I have to do this before I play, but then when I get back out again. PLUS, during this time when my mouse is reconfigured, I have to use the scroll wheel click as my left click option for navigating through Windows and the game interface. PAIN.

Everybody's ranting about this game. But all I see is:

1) no primary mouse button mapping support

2) no third mouse button recognition

3) no scroll wheel recognition

4) clipping issues all over in the maps

5) cartoonish NOLF graphics

6) annoying free-crosshair that inhibits a true direction sense (I think I'm headed for the crosshair, but it's not exactly centered in my screen, so I miss my destination)

7) do these cut scenes ever stop?

OK, so I got off-topic a bit from control configurations. But I come to this site and I read the review that says "the bestest, most wonderful tacsimm bar-none." Bar none? I disagree. Get these problems fixed, and we'll talk. In the meantime, that blur that just passed you by, leaving the acrid smell of diesel oil and field rations in the air... that was Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. Give it a try.

I'm sad to say I agree totally...I'm trying not to sound as pissed of as you, but it's hard....I bought the game 2 months ago, and I havent been able to play normally.

I'm buying(!!!!) games regulary but with this game the problems keep coming. for instance: these guys BUY a legit game and they have to download a crack no-cd key in order to get their game working, thats strange not to say rediculous?confused.gif

indeed: 50 bucks for a free troubleshooting forum is stupid and also, I had enough to bother the guys on this site..

I'm thinking about Ghost Recon too or play my old DFLW.

Why do you want to remap the primary button? Would you like to remap a weapon so you shoot with the nose?

Other remap options could exist though. Like vocal commands.

Clipping issues are not all over the maps, but on some places. Played the entire campaign, never saw a single glitch.

"cartoonish NOLF graphics". Huh? Have you ever played NOLF? Have you played OFP? Do you think the military would use it as a training sim if it didnt look real (VBS)?

It is as they say, real virtuality...

The cross hair is realistic. Not inhibiting. In real life people cant turn on 1cm while running. This isnt quake.

Run where your nose points, not the crosshair. Actually, the crosshair shouldnt even be there in the first place...

Cutscenes do stop. They are there to live up the story. And can be very cool is used correctly. As I said, this isnt quake. This is real virtuality with cinematic touches.

Reality

Crosshair or not, doesn't matter. Personally, I found the old Hidden & Dangerous sites interesting, where you were actually looking down the weapon - granted that took up a good chunk of screen real estate, so programmers made the compromise: you get the site of your gun without having the gun take up most of the screen. This seems realistic enough for me - a person's peripheral vision is going to account for almost all of their forward field of view, even if they are sighting down the gun. But, as I said, crosshairs or not don't matter. All that the programmers had to do to make the floating site work was put a "ghost" reticule, or a small red dot, or some other demarcation that stayed exactly in front of my feet. If I could aim where I went with that rather than relying on my sights (which are NOT reliable for running a particular direction), there would be no issue.

Now as for remapping the primary mouse button, I felt fairly confident that my initial post had conveyed the trouble I am having. Let me try again.

Situation: Primary Mouse Button mapped to "Fire"

My Desire: I want the button mapped to "Forward"

Problem: I can't map it.

I don't understand what you mean by "mapping a weapon to fire with the nose." All I want is the ability to have forward and back as the two mouse buttons, and 'fire' to be my 'z' key. Is that too much to ask of a game that I paid nearly 50 bucks for?

You know what really gets me? Reviewers of the game that fail to mention this or take it into account in their reviews. It's like they look right past it, either making due, or already comfortable with the required key config.

And I'll stand by my statement on Ghost Recon. Hands down blows OPF away. Play that game and then tell me about realistic graphics. BUT FIRST TELL ME HOW TO MAP MY D*MN MOUSE BUTTON!! LOL

Has anything changed during past 9 years and some patches?

OFP might be a cool game, if authors had a little bit more respect to players, instead of forcing them to learn uncomfort control layout.

Uncomfortable layout? No respect? they gave us 3 good games, free editing tools, free modifiable models, an engine that is very easy to add content too and if the mouse thing really bothers that much, you should buy a mouse which can be configured individually of the game.

Oh by the way when has the left mouse button ever been the forward button in a game?

STGN

ETA why did you dig up 9 year old thread just too rant?
