Splitting groups to create diverse tasks?

Recommended Posts

Basically, let's say I have a helicopter with a group of Marines in cargo. The helicopter is leader out of all of them.

I want the helicopter to fly over this city, drop the marines off. Then head back to base.

Essentialy, I want one of the marines to become leader so that I can have him command that squad and move around the city, while the helicopter seperates from the group, becomes it's own unit and heads back to anywhere I want it to go.

Thank you for your time.

Why wouldn't you just have them as two separate groups?

Well because to transport the troops there, they have to be linked to the helicopter as one primary group and also set to "In Cargo" status. No? (I soppose I am inexperienced at the editor)

EDIT: Actually, I was researching some stuff and it looks like to me it would work,

One helicopter, flies to location, drops off units. (It's own group with it's own name)

Squad of marines grouped seperately, but using the command this moveInCargo <helicopter name here> with their own waypoints are the chopper sets down.

Hopefully that works.

{_x moveincargo helicoptername} foreach units this

If you put that in the init field of the squadleader and change helicoptername to the name of the helicopter it will put the entire squad into the helicopter and you will only need to put that in the leaders init. Using "man moveincargo heli" would mean you have to put it in for all of them. Just a little tip to help you save time. It works for other things as well.

Make sure you give the helicopter an unload waypoint. It helps if you give it an unload waypoint ontop of a "H(invisible)" under empty objects. That way it will land more precisely.

Excellent thank you! The purpose of this was to use it for the Rappeling script that someone made, it's all working great now, however I've noticed on heavily dense maps full of units and scripts (lag?) it dosen't work very well if not at all.

Edit: Looks like helicopter, if given another waypoint past the "Rappel" one, refuses to unload troops, and flies past it. Hmmm

Try the "Transport Unload" waypoint. That one should work. I was actually just making a mission and realized that I told you the wrong one. Sorry about that. I confuse them sometimes.
