Visual problems.

Recommended Posts

Not sure if this is down to my overall computer specs, or the fack my graphics card is likely bot good enough, but when I loaded the ARMA 2 demo, the game looked like a lens flare dream. Everything was super-bright, and when I got rid of that, the colours were quite pastell-y, the textures were horrendous and there was distinct lag. Not to mention all the lighting was still unbalanced. So I have little idea why it is like this, or what to do. I'll leave my specs here for reference.

Processor:

3.05 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4

16 kilobyte primary memory cache

1024 kilobyte secondary memory cache

64-bit ready

Hyper-threaded (2 total)

OS:

Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600)

Memory:

1536 Megabytes Usable Installed Memory

Graphics Card:

NVIDIA GeForce 6200

Yep that pc will have a hard time running ARMA2. And the demo isnt even as optimized as the latest updated game is so i guess its even more slide show with demo. But to enjoy ARMA2 i would suggest upgrading.

mhm.. that gfx card was released almost 6 years ago... not a snowballs chance in hell. you NEED to upgrade to play arma2. The whole system.

The GeForce 6200 is a low budget card from six years ago. It will probably struggle to run any modern game you throw at it, especially Arma2. I'd say an upgrade is in order.

Well, fantastic...What would you suggest? A total upgrade of my entire system?

Yes update everything , you can keep the OS if you want but if you get a directX 10 or 11 compatible Video card you should get windows 7

Go to your local PC store and ask if you can chose your configuration , or check their website usually they have a page where you can "build" your PC , that way you can see how much it would cost .

After some searching around, the cheapest desktop that fulfils the Optimal requirements in the Inspiron 560, or the 580. 580 is more expensive, but is better in every way, while the Inspiron 560 is barely at Optimum memory. Thing is, the 580's memory is only 6144MB Dual Channel DDR3 1333MHz [3x2048] Memory.

Thoughts? Alienware is so expensive it made my eyes bleed, as well.

You pay for the brand, you're better off looking for something else.

Yeah, I know. That's why I think getting the 580 is a good move, considering it's half the price of the cheapest Alienware model and is quite a bit better to boot.

Ready desktops are ripoffs as a whole. Don't you have a computer shop near you where you could have a system built from whatever parts you pick?

Yeah, there's a PC World about twenty minutes drive from here...

But I have no idea what parts to pick. I may speak it, but I am not l33t.

Build your own, I agree. It's easy and you can get some kits which have the mobo and proc already in...you just put in the cards.

Thing is, how will I know -which- parts to choose. A bunch of numbers at the end of a brand of a card company doesn't mean a great deal to me.
