AI Osprey insertion/extraction

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been able to get the osprey to insert and extract troops like the other helicopters in the game? Unfortunately I'm having a hard time getting the osprey to behave like a helicopter. The AI pilot will shoot over the "LOAD" waypoint and not even land near it.

I'll be working on this and will update this thread if I get it to work sucessfully. Has anyone else been able to get an AI controlled osprey to work correctly?

hmmm...iv never tried but try using a basic trigger to cause the osprey to go into auto-hover, before he reaches the LZ! and then use a trigger to turn off auto-hover when he leaves the LZ! use the "this action["auto-hover", on]...altho i think i may have that code writing wrong, ill check it out for you when i get time..goodluck

Auto hover apparently does not affect the AI. I was able to get the osprey to work pretty well using

land "GET IN"

hi,

Think with the waypoints and a invisible H it should do the trick,

but the osprey will be coming in to fast and miss the WP but he will fly around and gone try to land at the WP.

Use a WP "move" couple hundred meters away from you insertion point ,then place second WP on your insertion point, this WP is "transport unload" and you should set speed on limited so he wont go to fast for the insertion!

and if you place a invisible H(helipad)at your insertion point, then he should normally drop your units off at LZ

hope its some help and just ask if you need anything else.

Cya

Ive found the 22 does come in way too fast and overshoot the LZ a number of times. What I did was put a big circular trigger around the LZ and in that, told the pilot to slow down. It takes some trial and error but I did have it working.

So I was able to get this working relatively well. I had a move waypoint a couple hundred meters away from the invisible H which set the speed to "Limited". At that move waypoint in the "on act" field I have "mv22 land "GET IN";"

The osprey did not overshoot and actually landed like a helicopter. Of course I coupled this with some load waypoint and a friendly squad etc. Worked pretty well. It appears that the main issue is the turning radius of the osprey. When it's moving slow it can't turn like other helicopters. You have to give it enough room to maneouver around to land properly.

I have a video if you want to see it on a misson i made. If you use three then make sure 1.the waypoints are ok and planes wont crash. 2.make a playable unit in each craft. 3. My youtube vid.
