dxfan01 10 Posted January 8, 2010 (edited) Ok, i have a friend that I've been trying to get into ArmA for a while...and he's been trying to get it but can't really afford to pay for a game right now, which gives me a reason to finally get rid of the German version i bought back when it came out, so my question is if I buy myself a copy from best buy or somewhere can i uninstall the German one i have now and give it to my friend (i bought it off the internet and the downloads still work) would it be legal for him to install it on his computer since i have my own new copy of the game and everything is legitimate, no i'm not a pirate just doing something nice for a friend. Thanks in advanced for any help, DX Edited January 8, 2010 by DXfan01
Zipper5 74 Posted January 8, 2010 That should be perfectly fine if your game is legit. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
Placebo 29 Posted January 8, 2010 Yep seems legal to me, you're simply donating your online distribution version, I'd recommend you check the TOS or whatever of whichever digital site you got it from just in case they have some rule about transferring the game. Herbal Influence 10 Posted January 8, 2010 (edited) Nice question, I think, because it shows the disadvantages of just downloaded versions. I cannot answer that question. But my thoughts are: You simply wouldn't have to care about such things with a DVD of your own. As far as I know under German law the seller can hinder you from transfering a downloaded version to another person but can't do so with a DVD-version. Which doesn't say the seller did it in your case (license clause?) nor do I know that German law governs your contract. If he does not want you to transfer the downloaded version he may have applied something like an cpu or another identity check relating to your PC only so your friend couldn't use it. On the other hand he might have installed something like that but does allow the transfer of the license and only asks for personal data again - which I personally hate. One question from my side, by the way: Did you have to deliver personal data to get the downloaded version on your PC running? EDIT: For a correct answer it should be of interest from which download services you got your version. EDIT: Ooopps - I thought I was the first one to answer ... but ok ... I'll leave it so .. :o Edited January 8, 2010 by Herbal Influence
