Billy Bones 0 Posted January 4, 2010 Is it the norm in Arma2 for bodies to be sticking through walls ? One of my team go shot next to a wall , calling for medical aid I went to him half his body, bottom half was my side of the wall top half on the other side. Same when I shot an enemy, I shot him on a landing near a window , he fell slightly to the side. When I went up the stair and shot another guy in a room then carried on up to the next level to see if there was anyone else in the room above, there wasn't, well not in the room. What was sticking into the room from the other side of the wall was the guy I had shot earlier, top half of his body sticking out of the wall half way up it. On through walls and such , can the enemy AI see though walls ? I was in a barn and I was being shot at even moving to the side of where I was standing got the feeling that they knew where I was even though he was the other side of the barn wall some 30-40 yards away. grub 10 Posted January 4, 2010 (edited) I will try my best to answer this although many more knowledgeable people will be sure to come along. Yes bodies will stick through walls, but big deal right? The barn thing, if you appeared in the doorway and let off a couple of rounds they are now aware of your position in the barn. They will shoot at the doorway and anywhere else they may think you are. Also if the walls are penetrable by rounds they will just unleash a clip in the hope that they nail you. I myself have had enemy on the top floor of a 3 story building in a different room to me. The AI's barrel was protruding through the wall so I figured I head past him and nail him round the corner but he shot me through the wall. This was with patch 1.05. For me I don't really care though as I just find a different way to take down this particular enemy. Hope this has been of some use. jasonnoguchi 11 Posted January 4, 2010 hint: in ArmA2 engine, all AI have HEARING ability and they can judge where a person is by hearing. This is why you cannot sneak all the way up behind an enemy AI without being spotted.
Alex72 1 Posted January 4, 2010 Its fun because we had some players (BF2'ers in general) that came and played with us. They complained tons over getting shot when they were hiding behind wooden fences and thin walls etc. Also when they were behind a building completely they got shot dead. They cried out "OH BULLSH*T!". A lesson later and they were informed of ricohets and material penetration. :) They didnt like it and took off. :D As Grub explained the eAI in ARMA2 will perform suppressing fire when they see you. If you move behind a barn wall (usually wood) they will suppress that area and if you jumped to the left behind the wall the eAI will suppress the door and to the left. Some of the rounds are powerful enough to penetrate barn walls and you will get killed. Best thing to do in that situation is to get prone and start wiggling. Dont get caught in a barn! :)
Billy Bones 0 Posted January 4, 2010 Thanks for the replies, I thought as much with the barn so not bothered about that, the reply about the gun sticking through a wall and shooting you now that is a bit to much.:D
sic-disaster 311 Posted January 4, 2010 Bodies stick through walls because there are no ragdolls in the game. Implementing ragdolls would cost way to much, and the gain would be little to none. The way it is now, at least the bodies are all at the same location for everyone and they can be used for cover. If we had ragdolls, they would have been client-side most likely as not to overload servers, and then they would be in a different location for everyone and you wouldnt be able to use them for cover. It's annoying and it looks stupid for bodies to stick through walls, but its a sacrifice we'll have to make untill we all have a Nasa pc.
