Probability of presence vs playable units

Often I make all the units in my group apart from the leader have a probability of presence, say 50% each, that way I get a different mix of talents and numbers each time I play, making me use different tactics depending on group makeup.

However, sometimes I'd like to make use of the team switch option too, but making any unit playable (and thus available for team switch) also makes that unit 100% probability of presence.

I can sort of see why this would happen, you wouldn't wish for players to be kicked out of the game because their avatar didn't spawn, but how can I get around this limitation for SP use?
