Morph 0 Posted November 23, 2001 Hi. Just got a cablemodem and can now finally play OFP online at last.. I set up a server for 5 ppl with very low pings (around 50) and chose the map oilwar.. Now.. when I move the mouse to aim, its sooooo slow... Impossible to snipe..Impossible to play... Any ideas? Is it lag? Even though the people run about as normal (no sign of disappearing players, etc which is usally a sign of lag) The game runs fine in 1024 with H&L 32 bit colour in Single mode, but not in MP mode......... My System: P3 700 512Mb RAM Creative GeForce 2 Pro 64mb DDR with Detonator 21.83 drivers Latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers and IRQ Miniport Please help! Â I've tried running the map Oilwar as a single player LAN game and it runs fine....... Â (Edited by Morph at 1:03 pm on Nov. 23, 2001)
RN Malboeuf 12 Posted November 23, 2001 seems it should run fine with that many pll goto this page and look at the links for testing your net speed http://pub51.ezboard.com/froughn....8.topic and then head to my siggy and dload the directX util and read what it does then head over to http://www.speedguide.net and tweak you cable conection i always run 1200x1024x32 bit in MP and 1600x1200x32 in SP you might want to pop down to 16 bit (Edited by RN Malboeuf at 7:06 am on Nov. 23, 2001)
Morph 0 Posted November 23, 2001 Hmm.. I Don't think its a problem with lag... I can play any other game over the net and it's fine... I did an ISP speed from some program I got that tests Cablemodems and it said it was excellent... No packet loss, etc... Could it be that I'm creating the server from Gamespy Arcade? I'm not running a dedicated server or anything, just a straight coop from within the Everon (create your own games here section of GSA.. I just don't understand why everything is so smooth, yet when I move my rifle around its soooo slow.. ONLY in MP games.... OFP runs superbly on 1024x768 with Hardware T&L in 32bit on single player.. Mister Frag 0 Posted November 23, 2001 Go to the DSLReports Tools page and tune your network settings using the Tweaks tool. The tweaks apply to any type of connection, not just DSL. If the problem persists afterwards, let us know, and we'll see how to proceed. PS: You may want to run a Speed Test first to see what sort of improvements you are getting. MP 0 Posted November 23, 2001 Also if you are running a slow processor it need's to process information that is being received from your clients and display them as movement or dieing etc. I get no problems with frame rate and I'm on a 56k dial up
Renagade 0 Posted November 23, 2001 hmmm i thought the framerate waslinked to lag on mp games but hes on cable which is strange. Ive had experiences like that but i couldnt find the reason as it happens occasionally

Morph 0 Posted November 24, 2001 Well.. I've finally solved the problem.... It turns out that its only happening when I'M THE HOST....... I could never get a game in GSA, so I always setup a server for about 5-7 ppl, and thats when it happens.. I joined a server for the first time (I know I know, you're probably all thinking WHY DIDNT YOU TRY THAT? ) Anyways.. It was like a dream, superb framerates, and very playable indeed.. NO MORE HOSTING FOR ME!! Just on another note.... Ran 3dMark2001 on my machine. Got a score of only 1720 with Pentium 700 512mb Pc133 RAM, Creative Geforce 2 Pro 64 ddr.. What gives?
