KAA-Doc 10 Posted November 9, 2009 Trying to get into arma 2, is it seems to me, very hard I find, so im doing a lot of coop at the mow, just to try and get to grips with the gameplay, But i have to say, it gets frustrating, when you hitch a lift on a heli only for it to crash, or get shot down, just as you arrive at your target So if someones got any good tip on how to stay alive longer :) would be good Also coms are a bit confusing, cant seem to find what i have to press, to give my loction, and stuff like that Anyways guys its a great sim, so any tips would be nice kind regards Doc
cm. 10 Posted November 9, 2009 (edited) 1) Make sure you land AWAY from any hot zones and walk the rest of the distance. Rememeber the AA guns/missles have long reach. 2) For some reason (this has been excluded since OFP1) there is no "report position" voice comms for your own player. Instead, just give them a move waypoint next to your position. Once he can see you again, he will no longer be "away". 3) I've been playing the game for years and years and still can't remember all the comms. This is something you will learn from lots of experience. 4) Stay away from pub servers if you want decent gameplay. Stick to private communities like tactical gamer or a local clan. Most clans/groups will be happy to have another recruit :). There is a dedicated forum here for it, do a search for any local ones. Edited November 10, 2009 by cm. no use for a name 0 Posted November 10, 2009 (edited) I'll add to the heli (even tho you're probably not flying it yet...but you will ;) )...fly nap-of-the-earth. Try to get as close as you can to the treetops/ground and fly in valleys/canyons. Like cm. said keep away from hot areas until you know the AAA threat is gone (typically with fast-movers or infantry on the ground). Sorry...my 'flight sim' mind just kicked in lol Stay away from pub servers if you want a serious game experience. Sometimes they're nice just for fooling around/testing; but get on board with some organized players with moderated servers. There's plenty out there, and they'd probably be more than happy to let you jump on. Just make sure you get the basics down and you're good to go As for the key commands...yeah, they definitely take a while to learn. Luckily they're more or less the same as OFP, so we who've been playing since 2001 have them down pat. I still forget sometimes though. Just play some small single player missions; or you can just jump in the editor with some AI and put up some easy targets to practice all the commands.
