beton 2 Posted November 7, 2009 Hi.. i wonder if there is anybody out there who is willing and able to write a script for visitor. I would like to have a script to smooth the terrain in a selected area. Since bulldozer only allows heigth editing in 1meter steps and one has to edit every single vertice it is veryvery timeconsuming. I and i think all the other Islandmakers would be very happy if someone would take on that task. This might also lead to more and nicer maps for the whole community... So please drop a line if you would want to try that...:) thanks Beton
beton 2 Posted November 7, 2009 Well.. i need in fact a script to smoth the selected area. A friend of mine visited me today and we tried to encrypt the syntax of visitor scripting language. Maybe if anybody knows if it is possible to create an array and how it is done... please explain it. Otherwise we have to stick to create lists and try it that way... bushlurker 46 Posted November 8, 2009 (edited) Have you tried to go to... View>Panel of Objects>Terrain Vertices... select an area with the mousetool you automatically get, then, instead of choosing the "Change Height" button - choose the "Erosion" button instead... it'll operate on selected areas quite happily, and the "FinalBlur" option is basically a (quite heavy) "smooth" function... The only drawback I've found is the fact you can't (unless I've also missed something totally obvious) select irregular shapes - it just seems to be a drag a square or rectangle situation... I've used it quite a bit to try to tidy up the sawtoothed devastation wreaked on my map by the Road "smoothing" tool - its a laborious gridsquare-atta-time nightmare but it does work fine... beton 2 Posted November 8, 2009 Hi I have tried ersiosion many times but that resulted in big holes in the ground. I have not yet found the parameters to have no erosion but still the final blur since there is no documentation anywhere. So i have given up on using the erosiontool.:( The friend of mine would try to write a script for that but we need a kind of documentation of how to create an array to have any progress. Maybe this would lead to some other useful scripts for the islandmakers out there.:)
Snake Man 407 Posted November 8, 2009 There is! :) PMC Editing Wiki: Visitor 3 erosion. Always good idea to include PMC Editing Wiki in your searches for editing stuff. If you cant find something in our wiki, send me a PM or post message to PMC forums and I'll see what can be done for making such page.
beton 2 Posted November 8, 2009 Ah.. ok thank you :) i will have a look into that. But i will still try to have this damn script working. It would make many things more comfortable...
bushlurker 46 Posted November 8, 2009 (edited) Theres also some basic explanation of the erosion tool parameters here... plus - like Snakeman says - ALWAYS check the PMC Ed Wiki, and OFPEC (when they're around)... but good luck with the script idea - anything that makes Visitor more userfriendly or even just usable is a great idea. beton 2 Posted November 10, 2009 Ok... i have been playing around with the erosiontool in visitor again. Everytime i use the final blur function i get a very deep hole in the ground so its useless... I think i have to go on trying to make the visitorscript work properly...
icebreakr 3159 Posted November 10, 2009 Beton use Snake Man's tips, it works. It works nicely if you select whole map and play around with settings.
