Yes I Searched. Linking and Unlinking

Recommended Posts

Brand new Arma fan here, and after a lot of Oblivion modding, I am interested in modding for Arma 2 now. I have read and watched tons of tutorials and am making my way along nicely. Great community here btw!

I have a few tiny nagging problems and I figured I would start this thread to ask for help when I have been unable to find a solution.

My first problem has to do with linking/unlinking units and moving them around. I can add a group to the scene and link and unlink them all day without difficulty by left clicking and dragging the link either away or to a given unit, but I can't select a unit and move it around. Also if I add a single unit to a scene and then a second single unit they become linked if added too close together. When I try to unlink them, I am instead moving them around. Can someone shed some light on the difference in linking/unlinking and moving units around on a map since you are essentially doing the same action, left-clicking and dragging the mouse.

If I have other issues I can't solve, I will post here instead of a new thread, but that is it for now.

Thanks,

Khugan

This refers to the editor you mean? By default if you add a new unit close to the other they will be added to the same group. They will be grouped or 'linked' to use your term.

What you need to do to get them independent is to press F2 and then click on the new (or existing) unit and hold down left mouse and move it away into an empty space on the map and they'll un-group.

To move each unit individually you need to press F1 to go back into unit control and then left click and hold and move them.

IF you don't ungroup them and then you move one of them around they'll still be grouped no matter how far apart. If the one you move is the leader of the group (by either placement order or rank) and the other has in its init field to start 'In Formation' it will be immediately moved into formation with the leader no matter how far away you have them set-up on the map.

Simple answer: When you want to group or ungroup use the "group" button. Everything you do with the mouse after that, concerns grouping. If you double click you get the group pop up, if you click and drag you group or ungroup units etc

When you want to move a unit around you press the "unit" button. Everything you do with the mouse concerns moving around and properties of individual units.

OK, I have ran into another road block. I want to spawn an "H (Invisible)" by way of a trigger or wp. I have googled HeliHEmpty, but all the results seem to be about spawning vehicles. I simply want a named invisible pad.

land1 = "HeliHEmpty" createvehicle [getmarkerpos "here"]

Doesn't seem to work.
