Game runs great, but

Recommended Posts

I've managed to get the game looking and running great on my setup..

However, I'd like to eliminate the "stutter-load" when coming up to a new area, is this possible?

It kinda ruins the moment for me when i remember i'm playing a game (this game is VERY immersive)

Would a SSD help?

AMD Phenom II Quad Core 940 Black Edition @ 3.4Ghz

ATi 4850HD 512MB

4GB DDR2

Windows Vista64

Edit: I have just run contig/powerdefrag on the Arma2 folder, this helped quite a bit. Still SOME stutter though. Chipset drivers are up to date, for my SATA2 drive.

Make sure all non-essential background programs are closed (that fixed it for me), and try playing around with different video memory settings, default then very high first (I hear that fixed it for a lot of people)

its possible with a SSD drive, or a ram disk, and setting your gfx card memory to default in game helps if you have a lot of ram on the card.

I have an SSD drive and I don't have any stutter. However when I set my game memory setting to very high I do get a little. I keep it at default though and everything is super smooth.

It should i guess ?!?, but i noticed a significant increase in performance when puting this option to veryhigh/high. I use a 8800GTS and i dont think the setting is suppose to be very high/high when useing that card (notice turned of post fx)

There is a problem with the video ram "DEFAULT" setting, use "VERY HIGH"

Side note:

I set map quality to NORMAL and get much better FPS and lower stutter.

(I have ordered the OCZ vertex 30Gb to put ARMA on. I'll report back when I've tested)

Excellent, i'm very interested to know how this turns out.

Yes, in ARMA1 it was better to use DEFAULT but its not so good in ARMA2 for some reason.

Give it a try...

Depends on your hardware. Some people get better performance with Very High or High, some get better performance with default, I get slightly better performance with default, but it's only about 2-3 fps difference.
