undertheradar 10 Posted October 19, 2009 Hello, I am looking to play through the campaign with other players over the internet. Is there a guide on how this works somewhere? When I am in the multi-player menu, how do I start the full campaign instead of one of the missions? When I start a server on my PC, will people be able to see it on the GameSpy browser page automatically or do I need to give them my IP? Thanks!
whisper 0 Posted October 19, 2009 AFAIK the campaign mission are not suited to be played on a dedicated server. There's a number of conditions, triggers, and such, that requires that the squad leader must be the server
undertheradar 10 Posted October 19, 2009 It was marketed with the claim that the game supports this mode of play and is the main reason I purchased this title (and subsequently upgraded my vid card from an 8800 to a 5850) "Play the entire solo campaign cooperatively or dive into huge PvP battles for control of the whole map." from... http://www.arma2.com/overview_en.html
whisper 0 Posted October 19, 2009 sorry, I completely misunderstood your question. I thought you wanted to play the campaign from a dedicated server. You can of course play the campaign online. It's not intuitive : you need to start from the "SinglePlayer" option, chosing "campaign", chose the campaign, and you should have a "host" option, or something like that (I never hosted myself) Note that the Host must play the role of the squad leader. undertheradar 10 Posted October 19, 2009 Thank You, Whisper. Now that I can start the server, two questions about connectivity: Do I need to forward the listed port on my router to my PC hosting the game? Can my friends join my campaign through Steam or Gamespy or do I need to send them my IP? Thanks!
fincuan 0 Posted October 19, 2009 TDo I need to forward the listed port on my router to my PC hosting the game? Yes Can my friends join my campaign through Steam or Gamespy or do I need to send them my IP? No idea on Steam, but by default your server should be visible on Gamespy's listing. btutor 10 Posted October 20, 2009 (edited) My nephew & I both just got Arma II to play the coop campaign. We are on opposite sides of the country. He hosts the campaign as described above. It shows up on the GameSpy multiplayer screen. We didn't need to open any router or firewall ports. I join his server and we have progressed through 4 scenarios. But we are now stuck. We have finished the scenario where we take the town (spoiler coming), take the truck ride, and the guy gets shot. The session completes normally. But when he hosts again we are back on the same mission. We have played through twice now. Anybody know why? Edited October 20, 2009 by btutor
tcp 10 Posted October 20, 2009 Trying going to Multiplayer screen -> New -> Setup Make sure you choose Internet You should be able to select the scenario you want to play. You'll lose some weapons progress, but you can always edit individual scenarios if it becomes a problem. You have to have hosted a campaign before for the missions to show up.
