Odd performance increase with new monitor.

Recommended Posts

Right so up until today Id been playing Arma2 on my old Dell 17" screen, 1280x1024, 4:3, 60hz ect. All settings on max except AA on low, View on 2500 and fill-rate matching my resolution, performance seemed to vary from poor to great.

I went out today and got a 20" Samsung, 1600x900, 16:9, 60 hz ect. Now with all the same settings the performance is consistently fantastic!! I cannot believe what I have been missing these past few months.

I really cannot think of why this would be, could Arma be generally more efficient at certain resolutions?

By the way I have a fairly modest system, I was on budget for a machine I could use along side my Macbook in my studio and it cost around £500 or so in their weekly deals.

Dell XPS 430

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33Ghz

3gb DDR3 1067mhz

Ati HD4850 512mb standard clocks

500gb 7200rpm HDD

Omg people still use a CRT lol

Most likly it was proberly to do with the refresh rate @ 60hz (although i dont know what in the hell you were doing watching it at that refresh rate for, thats serously bad for your brain and eyes..)

anyway a CRT has a refresh rate from like 65-100hz it is very differnt to that of a LCD.

It was an LCD, came with my old Inspiron system from 2004/2005. We got rid of our CRT's in 2002 when we got rid of our Gateway system!

really strange, if you have higher resolution and get better game performance

you mean you have more FPS when you increased resolution ?

it would be completely irrational , wow

Yes much a much wider scene is being rendered (4:3 vs. 16:9) but I have more FPS and it all looks better. It only slowed down when I put my fillrate uptoo 3200x1800 (200%)
