in the campaign, it is restricted to some parts as far as i know, but thats too keep people in the area of operations.

I muliplayer missions, you can go wherever you like, although, going in the opposite direction as the enemy can get boring.

Dont quote me on this though.

depending on the mission.

Manhattan is the only one where you can't go wherever you feel like, but the size of the playable size is about 1/3 of the island.

However, the rest of the missions should be playable on the whole island...

I didn't have any problems with not being able to flank or play as i want to during the campaign, due to the trigger that is limiting the size of area playable.

MP missions and editor are free to use as you feel like, the hole island being available for free roaming (bar the ones where the missions designer is putting down some limiting triggers...)

By default there are no limitations whatsoever, but missiondesigners can add those should they want and some have indeed done so.

Ok, thanks. Looks like the mission designers are using a common template, every map I've seen on various servers so far uses the bottom right-hand corner only.

I think he's talking about that empty terrain North and West of Chernarus, that has no vegetation and buildings... or maybe I'm completly wrong!

I am. The bottom right-hand corner has all the text and infrastructure, the rest is nekkid in all respects. It looks like the devs populated only the one bit and did nothing with the rest of it.

The part of the Island in question, isn't part of Chernarus...Since Chernarus isnt supposed to be an Island, isnt populated, if you notice there is a line whitch mark the end of the country of Chernarus!

The first time ive played the game I had the same thougt....but what the hell, the bottom right corner (Chernarus) is already Big enough! :bounce3:

Theres a noticeable "end" to the world which was designed and populated for use in the game, this is the area you are talking of. Everything "outside" is just automatically generated terrain which (i think, never got there...) goes to infinity. is 225 km^2 not enough?

The devs made and populated one bit, and then the rest was auto generated so that the edge was "seamless".... its not really set up to be played in, but you can go there. theres just nothing there.

like what was said the actual "playable" area is 225x225 sq km, the rest is auto-generated so if you go outside the intended area you don't just hit an invisible wall
