Akatora 10 Posted September 30, 2009 Hello. I'm wondering if BI are offering their weapon sound files to be downloaded somewhere, i've been searching around on Arma2, the forums, BI, google, but no success. (The sound when bullets are fired, explosions, vehicle sounds etc) Would appreciate if anyone could give information here if they know anything. Thanks. Windexglow 10 Posted September 30, 2009 Probably in the .pak files under "weapons" or whatever name they gave to them. I'm sure there's an extractor somewhere.
no use for a name 0 Posted September 30, 2009 download BI Editing Tools (look in the editing forum) and de-pbo the sounds.pbo
hamis 0 Posted October 2, 2009 There's no pak files, they are pbo's.You should find sounds for weapons in "weapons.pbo",tracked vehicles in "tracked.pbo" etc. They are in wss format,so you need some tools to convert them to wav.Take a look in editing section for more info.;)
Akatora 10 Posted October 5, 2009 So, i've managed to Un-PBO the files, but then i got lots of P3D files i need to extract, after a long time of googling around, with no success, i asked a friend of mine if he knew any program that could open them, somehow he found Peak3D, in the descrition of the program it said it could open P3D files, but no, it couldn't. I read somewhere that there is no program available at the moment to open the Arma2 P3D files, but in my ears that sounds ridiculous. BI isn't offering any tools for it tho. hamis 0 Posted October 6, 2009 Hey,don't try to open P3D's!They are 3D models of the stuff in the game.Sounds are in WSS format and usually in sound(s) folder,so you need this:http://www.k-foren.de/attachment.php?postid=193534 Then just doubleclick wssutilizer.exe and choose the files and click wssdecode, and you get waw's. The reason you can't open the P3Ds is because they are binarized, that means the model editor for P3Ds (called oxygen 2) wont work because the data needed for the editor has been removed from the model. Its a way BIS protects their work/property. The editor Oxygen 2 can open unbinarized P3Ds but none of BIS' will be, you can download unbinarized sample models from most ARMA related sites though. Akatora 10 Posted October 13, 2009 Thanks for the information about P3D & WSS files, i appreciate that you take your time to explain how it works etc, things really get cleared up for us less experienced in this area. I've downloaded a WSS file converter now, and managed to decode WSS files to Wave, but i don't know what's wrong, because when i play up, let's say a sound from a weapon, a rifle, it just sounds like as if glass is being broken. How come? Cheap decoder program, or just lousy made one? Other? All of the sounds i've decoded sounds like glass is being broken, but with different tones ofcourse. hamis 0 Posted October 13, 2009 (edited) You have to save waw's as wave PCM signed 16 bit mono and original playback rate eg.22050 hz,44100 hz.Otherwise they sound like you describe, get some better program like Goldwave.Sometimes decoders dont work as they should,so try to google for more of them(2-3 i think).Hope this helps. Akatora 10 Posted October 15, 2009 Thanks again for helping, i'll try anything that people suggest. ---------- Post added at 04:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:24 AM ---------- You have to save waw's as wave PCM signed 16 bit mono and original playback rate eg.22050 hz,44100 hz.Otherwise they sound like you describe, get some better program like Goldwave.Sometimes decoders dont work as they should,so try to google for more of them(2-3 i think).Hope this helps. It's just that the files i've decoded turns up as Wave's, not Waw's. I got Goldwave now, and it can't open WSS files to decode them as Waves. And when i open the soundfiles in Goldwave it says that the files that sounds as glass being broken already are PCM signed 16 bit mono, and got a playback rate at 44100 hz. hamis 0 Posted October 15, 2009 Then it's wsstool screwing sounds, you can try this:http://www.filefront.com/4066894/OFP_Utility_WSS_Windows.zip Or this:http://users.telenet.be/blanco/WSSFileConverter.zip Hope they work better,if not then search these forums for BI sound tools. Akatora 10 Posted October 17, 2009 Oh jesus! it was the tool i used to make PBO's into WSS that screwed up the sounds, WSS-File-Converter was shit, atleast for me on my computer, i tried PBO-View, and it's wonderful. PBO-View to turn PBO's into WSS, then use OFP-Utility-WSS to turn WSS into Wave. Sorry if i troubled you alot, but i've learned much, and it all ended good :) I just kept trying to get new programs to turn the WSS files into Wave, should have checked the one that turns the PBO to WSS first, d'oh!
