Game crash/freeze fix for some people

Recommended Posts

Since I haven't had any stability problems with Arma 2 I decided to try and create some. After testing a lot of different settings I found that if I go into BIOS and set PCI Express to 100Mhz (a common overclock technique) then stress testing everything still works fine (including a long run of 3d Mark) but Arma 2 crashes after 1-10 mins of play.

Setting the PCI Express to auto stopped the crashing.

Obviously this won't help everyone but it's something that may help some people with crashing/freezing issues.

well 100mhz is default.. so maybe your auto is higher?

I actually saw no reason for it to go above 100 (default) and it runs everything else fine, so I figured something in Arma is triggering an increase but it's crashing when it can't increase.

or it needs a increase for nvda cards... like 106 or under.

interesting...I've always locked mine to 100mhz and never had problems. I'll give it a shot
remember you could burn it. And if you have other devices on the PCi-e they will be boosted too, like maybe a Nic, or some controller.

Oh I won't go above 100MHz, I'll just leave it on auto

Did a bit more testing and found that if I disable Spread Spectrum options and C1E support (BIOS) then Arma 2 crashes after about 30 mins of play, Red Faction also crashes occasionally, everything else runs stable.
