Narcissist 10 Posted September 19, 2009 (edited) Hi, I have recently moved in with a friend, both of us have ArmA 2 and have played the same MP servers before, however now that we're sharing the same net connection we cannot both connect to an online server/MP game at the same time. We can get a LAN game up and running, but if we try to connect to the same internet game it disconnects ('no message received for x-seconds') whichever one of us is already in the server and gives a 'connection failed' message to the one trying to join. What can we do to fix this issue? Has anyone else experienced this? We have tried several basic possible fixes such as restarting the router and restarting both rigs, enabling UPnP and running the 'winsock reset' cmd but thus far nothing has worked. Can anyone offer some help, possible workarounds, things to try etc.? I'm not in the IT industry so I can't tell you much other than both comps are running xp and are set up as what I assume is basic/standard. I may need clear step by step instructions if possible! bushlurker 45 Posted September 19, 2009 (edited) I've started renting out rooms in my big 'ol house to a few of my postgrad overseas students while they're here... I've turned 2 so far on to Arma2 and they've bought copies and we're doing a bit of upgrading to get them running... Normally we only play locally against each other, and that works fine... but the one time we tried to hook up with a fourth friend who lives elsewhere we had a similar hassle... basically we all have the same external IP... This applies to everything from Forums (such as this one) to other websites - we appear as the same person... quite funny since Dee is a French girl, and Benny is an Italian guy... It hasn't really been an issue for us since, as I say - its largely local LAN play for us, but I can see how it could be a big problem in less "communal" households... Sorry I can't offer a solution other than to say - you're not alone - it IS a problem... B Edited September 19, 2009 by Bushlurker
-=seany=- 5 Posted September 19, 2009 (edited) I play Arma1 and 2 with two Pc's behind the the same external IP and it works ok for me. So it is possible, which is always comforting to know when troubleshooting ;). A couple of things that might be related to it: Some times we both loose connection from the server and cant rejoin until I reboot the DSL modem, it looks like the server has crashed but it hasn't. This happens rarely though Another thing that I have noticed is that some times pc1 can see chat from certain players that PC2 cannot and vice versa. - If this is a bug for everyone who plays then it could cause some serious confusion/apparent rudeness. This happens quite a lot, but it could be related to 2 pcs on one ip, hard to test really. It happens in Arma1 also. Bulldogs 10 Posted September 19, 2009 Basically it should assign a different port to each computer so servers can detect each connection as a different computer even though your external IP is the same. I don't know if Arma 2 is configured for that though.
Narcissist 10 Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) Fixed! After tinkering with the router settings my roomie seems to have found a solution! IGMP proxy needs to be enabled (this is for a Draytek 2700 series router), description for IGMP enabled reads as 'multicast proxy for hosts on a lan'. Note that we do seem to have lost the ability to use in-game microphone communications. Hope this is of use to people and if anyone has any info on how to re-enable voice comms in game please let us know!
