First mission, laser designator...

Recommended Posts

I blow up the house, I blow up the concealed armour, I blow up the moving armour - then there's no objectives. The active objective says to designate targets, but there's no targets to designate and the call-it-in option is no longer available. I've tried to talk to my squad, no avail.

One thing that happened earlier is I was given a fail on a regroup, despite being stood right next to the squad leader when it failed me!

Any ideas?

Turns out the failed regroup was because of that slow so-and-so, Razor 5. I know his gun's heavy, but so's my laser-designator and I've stomped much further than him running to-and-fro to that shack!

So instead of following what the game was instructing me to do (which was to go to the formation marker to the right and just behind the SL, falling into formation and staying there), I hung back and waited for R5 to get his butt into gear (he was sauntering along the road in the village, not running, just walking, ignoring all the cover around him in a combat zone. Perhaps he was tired of life?). Once he arrived at Point Liquid, the regroup passed and we continued on our merry way.

An irritating little quirk - that my ability to accomplish a simple task ("go here") is destroyed by an AI character over whom I have no control - I couldn't even order the so-and-so to fall into line!

So if you're failing the Point Liquid regroup, have a look and see what the rest of the squad are up to - it may not be you who's failing and it saves having to restart the mission.

Is this sort of quirk common in the campaign? If so, I may well give the rest of it a miss - I don't fancy being on the end of a multi-hour mission only to find I can't complete it because of an AI's mistake.

Expect there more of it later.I love ArmaII but specially the SP Campaing is still FULL of bugs.I would suggest you to get your hands on the mission editor,if your experience annoying things in there[what mostly not happens] its your failure and not a bug;-)I was picking up the Campaign twice with different patches some time ago and found out that it needs many many fixes. But like i said, you have tons of fun more anyway with the editor.

You don't say which version of ARMA 2 you are running. It is essential to upgrade to 1.04. It is pointless to even start the 1.00 version let alone play the campaign.

In my experience, 1.04 patch eliminated all the bugs reported in the forum. It is however important to save often as you need to revert because sometimes a script would not run properly. Other than that, 1.04 pretty much ironed the game out. Of course, IMHO BIS should only have released the game that was on 1.04 standard, at least.

I also failed the Point Liquid regroup time limit (talking to the Doc and Girl) but the rest worked OK.

After destroying all the targets the mission ended with command congratulating Razor for achieving the objectives.

I have since completed all the Single User missions and now that the 1.04 is installed I'm going to play them all over again from the beginning to see if any of the prior anoying issues have been resolved.

Cheers,

Luke

Don't worry about failed objectives like that. Obey the spirit and not the letter of your orders.

Tracking all the Task updates and results in Dogs of War would give you a nervous breakdown.

I'm sensible enough to grab the latest patch before I even start a game for the first time - so yup, 1.04 from the off.

Seemed to be blocking my progress, preventing the mission from completing though.

I spent more time in the Editor in ArmA than I did doing anything else in there - level editors are a killer-function for me with games, if it's got it, I'll probably play more with that than any other mode. That was exactly my thinking with ArmA2, too.

Ah well, I just though I should give the campaign a go this time... I don't think I'll bother with that now. All I need to do is see how the editing differs in 2 to the prequel - looks the same on the surface at least, and I still have MrMurray's massive PDF to hand... hmmm...

What's Mr Murray's massive PDF?

Is it a How To for Editing?

Where can I get it?

I also got failed on the regroup objective when I was playing on 1.01 but it didn't cause any problems for me. Bugs happen for no apparent reason so I think it was just unlucky and not related to the regroup failure.
