bangtail 0 Posted September 17, 2009 aww dammit I only just downloaded 190.62 yesterday! Yah, it's always the same with Nvidia - No drivers for about 3 weeks and then 3 different ones within 24 hours :p Eth
Sniperdoc 0 Posted September 17, 2009 Only problem is it doesn't list for which OS those drivers are, and those are not nVidia endorsed as they are not available through the nVidia Beta section. Personally, I stay away from Beta anything. It's bad enough that Arma 2 feels like a beta to me.

B : I post them for people who are happy to try BETAs and it is CLEARLY stated in the title of this thread and the OP that they are not WHQL release drivers. C : The title of the OP CLEARLY states what OS they are for but I have added it here as well. You don't need to bother posting that you won't be using them  Eth Edited September 17, 2009 by BangTail

Sniperdoc 0 Posted September 17, 2009 How on earth do they have digitally signed drivers on another site when nVidia themselves don't have them up on their site??
bangtail 0 Posted September 17, 2009 How on earth do they have digitally signed drivers on another site when nVidia themselves don't have them up on their site?? Because they are not officially released. They are genuine Nvidia drivers however. I wouldn't post them if I wasn't 100% sure they were legit. Eth

Sniperdoc 0 Posted September 18, 2009 Guru3d is one of the most respected technology sites on the web. That doesn't mean they don't have bad drivers. I have gotten plenty of bad drivers from Guru3d before. Especially betas. Not trying to discredit you Eth, just making sure people don't just follow the "OH IT'S NEW SO IT'S GOTTA BE GREAT" mentality :) Arma 2 is in a beta state, and adding beta drivers can really muck things up. Take it from an IT guy with at least 17 years of experience.
Touch Off 10 Posted September 18, 2009 Yes, I agree with Sniperdoc, sometimes I've found it best to just wait for the official nvidia release. I won't be downloading this guru3d set but then I kinda think any performance issues for me are due to my CPU not being up to scratch or maybe the game still has a bit to go to finally play as optimally as possible. Take it from an IT guy with at least 17 years of experience. I don't post drivers that I haven't tested myself. I really don't understand why you keep posting negatively in this thread? You said you wouldn't be using the drivers and that's fine. It's clearly stated they are Beta etc so people use them at their own risk. You can also browse the thread on G3D and see what experiences others are having. Official WHQL drivers can cause just as much trouble as any given beta JFYI. Additionally, I never said "they are newer so they must be better". I don't subscribe to that theory at all. I used 182.50 up until a few weeks ago as I wasn't happy with 186.xx or the 190.xx. And seriously, there is no need to proclaim your IT experience. I've been in the business for a lot longer than you. I don't feel the need to announce it in order to lend assumed credence to my statements. Lastly, A2 works fine for me (and many others). I would not class it as "in a beta state". You are, of course, entitled to YOUR opinion however. TurkeyBurgers 10 Posted September 18, 2009 I don't have any crashes or problems running ARMA2 other than having to play online with medium settings and the bells and whistles turned off. I have a i7 920 chip and a 260GFX card with 6 megs of DDR3 running on Vista 64. I only get 20-30 FPS and I thought this system would run everything on highest settings (LOL). ARMA 2 eats my rigg for breakfast :) Maybe this patch will help out some. I have not installed any mods to do like the reduced foliage or anything because I am afraid I wont be able to play in any online servers since most don't allow mods. I think ARMA 2 would be awesome on a desert type of map (Arrowhead Addon I reckon). I think that they individually modeled each leaf lol. I dont know but I think if like half the trees and grass were removed it would be a lot better. I have not overclocked my i7 since it is running the stock fan but maybe that would help me get from medium to high settings. Anyway I am downloading this driver and I will remove my old one and install this bad boy and see if it helps any. My FPS cant get much worse at medium lol. All I can do is go up from here. Working well for me on various 200 series cards and configurations. Like you, I used 182.50 up until 190.62. The 190's seem to be improving as of the last 2 releases and the 191.00 seems extremely stable despite the fact that they have not been officially released. Gutm@sher 10 Posted September 18, 2009 thanks, ethne. i'll look for a d/l of it tonight. i read somewhere that you cant uninstall these drivers from add/remove software feature. can you confirm this?
Cionara 10 Posted September 18, 2009 Can anyone confirm that 191 is better then 185.85 ? Tested with ArmA2-Mark difference between 185.85 and 190.62. 190.62 took a lot of performance, 185.85 my favourite atm.

Alex72 1 Posted September 18, 2009 Cool thanks Ethne for linking. Will test straight away. The version with no uninstall etc i decided to wait with, but this plus what someone in that thread said made me go for it: "these drivers are the best so far for my palit gtx295 single pcb... also these drivers show dx 10.1 in the system infoand they have a option to show physx working indicator while playing games thumbs up from me for these drivers " Just begs to be tested. :) Alex
Sniperdoc 0 Posted September 18, 2009 (edited) I don't post drivers that I haven't tested myself. Sure... but that doesn't help another person's system. :) But, I'm glad they work for you. I really don't understand why you keep posting negatively in this thread? I haven't posted negatively really. Just telling folks to be... cautious? Additionally, I never said "they are newer so they must be better". I never say you did...? Just making the statement that people have a tendency to have "herd" syndrome. If it works for one person it's gotta be the panacea, no? Using unofficial drivers is likely just to throw a bigger wrench into BIS's troubleshooting. If it's not on nVidia's site, they're not official. They're modified drivers that the community has worked on... whether they are signed by nVidia or not, after they've been modified by unknown individuals and are not available on the nVidia website, that does not make them official. And seriously, there is no need to proclaim your IT experience. I've been in the business for a lot longer than you. I don't feel the need to announce it in order to lend assumed credence to my statements. I do. There's enough toon/loons out there that have no idea from their head and their rear... that's public speaking 101 there. Whether you choose to believe my credentials or not... that's up to the reader. Lastly, A2 works fine for me (and many others). I would not class it as "in a beta state". You are, of course, entitled to YOUR opinion however. Granted. If using the -winxp and =cpucount=4 means it's working fine for you, then that's absolutely fine. It is definitely a personal preference. I rather like playing with everything maxed. I want everything I paid for. Not half of the game. If I have a game that should be top of the line... why should I short-change my experience by limiting how and what I can do with it because of the developers shortcomings?
