A Statement about BIS. What do you think?

Oh okay cool.

In regards to the OP...I'm not quite sure if I know what he/she is getting at but:

I am loving all the addons that people are coming with and all the addons are increasing the game multiple times over with each new addons. However, it would be really incredibly awesome if BIS developed some way of managing all these modifications in a very standard/universal manner.

I'm not talking about a mod-manager, but a special website/repository that can manage the addons and ensure consistency and quality control...almost like official endorsed addons if you will. I don't really know what I mean but maybe something similar to how it is done in the Sims 3 exchange?

That will allow quality addons implemented into ARMA2 to be categorised in one repository

A good idea yes, but how? We need a super team, due the expansions and other BIS work I mean they would need to be paid positions in that team put together by BIS, unless they source the team for free from the already awesome community based on their love of addon making and modding.

But I hear you brother, I hear you.

Me. I couldn't mod my ass let alone create an addon so.....:(

But shit yeah, it would be awesome...

The question that was put forward has cross my mind in the past. But I will wait for the community reply.

Sorry, ScorpionGuard, the opinion you posted to be discussed is not your own.

That's ok, why not.

What that man there posted might been at a time where he has been in rage about some bugs of early versions of AA1. That's ok.

But because it came from some rage it lacks a lot of cool reasoning.

Things are so mixed together and aside .... it's barely understandable to me.

I don't know what.

I see wrong facts and the consumer attitude: "I want all and more for less money without leaving my velvet seat!", which is simply not the attitude you should have doing open, complex games like BI produces them.

BI games are and have always been a bit of Web 2.0 - consumer input is highly recommended and it's a great platform for this.

And if we are the beta-testers for some military training software - so what?

We - until now - all liked the feeling that BI is engaged not only in gaming, but also in the most serious combat simulating.

We like and enjoy their expertise in all these fields.

And I think we are lucky that the big money project VBS happens to let us get a software which is a fruit - and not a poisonous one - from BI engagement into VBS.

Does anyone remember that really old picture of two arab women playing OFP to train how to fight against western armies? I tried looking for it and couldn't find it anywhere, TBH.

Anyway: VBS = better than ARMAII because it is training those who's job it is to kill other people.

I would not want ARMAII to be as good as VBS and be in the hands of the general public...and by general public I don't mean you and your neighbour. I mean those two arab women and all their friends.

Worst post ever.

Couldn't disagree more. If a user wants to see the game have x, y or z feature then the very best thing they can do to make that happen is to "start modding". It's certainly more positive and productive than moaning to BIS about the new features they somehow feel they're entitled to have added for free.

On a home PC I doubt VBS2 makes for a better training system than ArmA 2. There is no real training benefit without the instructors and so on that the Marines and others would use with it. On it's own it's just a computer game with crappier graphics, some cool features, and no pre-made missions.

Meh...there are people on these very forums that seem to think that the difference is so great that they whine about not having access to them.

Personally, I feel that nothing is missing. I do not think that the public should have the same access to tools that the military does, though.

That's just my opinion.

You have to remember that VBS is a military simulator, whereas Arma 2 is a game based on military simulation.

There comes a point where reality is no longer fun. If Arma 2 was to truely resemble reality then the first time you were killed in game you'd have to stop playing, uninstall the game and never touch it again. Try hitting "load save game" in real life.

I'd imagine if VBS 2 truly simulates the infantry experience, most of your combat encounters may have you empty a few clips, maybe hit one enemy, then call in support (CAS, artillery, Spooky gunships at night) then pull out or occupy the support-destroyed positions. Very little opportunity to enjoy the gunplay and actually shoot people. Would get stale pretty quick.
