InFireBaptize 0 Posted September 10, 2009 Ok, I loved ArmA and i love ArmAII. One thing i don't understand is why hasn't been two install versions of this game! for instance Crysis installs a 32bit and 64bit versions of this game. I would think that the issue of 512MB video RAM, 64bit system and more than 4GB of system RAM was a lesson learned in the first ArmA! with the 1.16 beta patch for ArmA you still have to add the -maxmem to your shortcut and limit your system ram to 3GB in order to run ArmA in 64bit system that has more than 3GB of RAM. There are more gamers these days on the 64bit than ever before, so why not utilize all available resources! never mind the complexity of this game. If one company could do it, i'm sure others can. Best Regards.
TechnoTerrorist303 10 Posted September 10, 2009 Why do we need a 64 bit version of a2 if the 32 bit version does everything its supposed to? (I admit it doesn't at the moment). Software shouldn't be written to utilize all available memory just because it's there, not unless you're Microsoft.
InFireBaptize 0 Posted September 10, 2009 Software shouldn't be written to utilize all available memory just because it's there, not unless you're Microsoft. we don't know for fact if the 32bit version or arma2 are fully utilizing available memory, i doubt it because windows resort to virtual memory as seen from monitoring performance in task manager when playing arma2. I will run both versions of Crysis again tonight and monitor resources to compare performance.

InFireBaptize 0 Posted September 10, 2009 http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1266877&postcount=14 ok, why do we have to add switches and go to msconfig to alter maxmem or even change bios settings to get the game going whereas the solution would have been easier: implement 64-bit version. keep in mind that not all people are computer savvy and some of them have already abandoned this game. Deadfast 43 Posted September 10, 2009 I never had to do either. solution would have been easier: implement 64-bit version.
TimRiceSE 10 Posted September 11, 2009 that solution would be easier for who exactly? And im running perfectly fine on a 64 bit OS with no issues at all even with more memory than a 32bit OS/App can handle... weird.
InFireBaptize 0 Posted September 11, 2009 that solution would be easier for who exactly? And im running perfectly fine on a 64 bit OS with no issues at all even with more memory than a 32bit OS/App can handle... weird. what worries me is paging file and it has been discussed in the 8gb RAM thread. Last night when i did the Page File Performance Monitoring the %Usage peak reached 4.09 and that was only a 15mints testing the game with read/write disk activities that i haven't had a time to indulge into, imagine if we play it for hours! not only that, windows now because of the 32 bit application ram limitation on the x64 depends on paging file to move data back and forth from disk to ram, and this could be a bottleneck. One thing i don't understand, is if i have 8gb of ram why can't the game use it!
4 IN 1 0 Posted September 17, 2009 I just dont understand, windows simply dont like to run ARMA1/ARMA2 on RAM, maybe because M$ dont like BIS?
