Direct x 8.0 or 8.1

Recommended Posts

I've heard on a few forums that people are running 8.1 w/the .46 patch. Does this help the game more?

Our squad is currently using 8.0 w/ the .46 patch but someone asked about going to 8.1. Has anyone had any problems going up or is it user friendly?

thanks in advance

Thanks for clearing this up ,Deus Ex smile.gif

I heard some time ago that people had to re-format after installing DX8.1 so I stuck with DX8.0

-I guess they tried the beta then.

Thanks

8.1 will give u no perfomrance gain in Operation Flashpoint or any other game out there. There aren't any games with 8.1 features. Only benchmarks use em so far.

It only supports some other forms of texture compression so l have heard and other minor things.

I'm using direct x 8.1 with winMe and winXP prof (defaulf). No problems and it works the same as with 8.0. biggrin.gif

anyway. you'll need direct X 8.1 for OFP: Resistance. wink.gif

I just went up to DX8.1 last weekend because this demo needed it, but other than that, I haven't seen any difference in any other games.

They will be comming out with DX9.0 at the end of the year. Along with a service pack for WinXP.

I personaly, just stay updated with everything whether it improves my preformence or not.

Make sure your video driver is updated. I noticed some improvment in OFP, when I updated my Graphics card.

About DirectX

DirectX 8.1 is not a bug fix or speed improvement. It merely exposes a later version of Pixel shader for Geforce3 and Radeon level cards. You will always want to use the latest DirectX and won't have a choice when running newer games.

DirectX 9.0. The features set is not yet finalized, nor has the beta program began. Beta usually runs for 6-9months. It could be released at the end of the year, but no DX9 level hardware has been released or even publicly announced yet. The main features will be more versions of Vertex and Pixel shaders and Displacement mapping.
