BigJonnyC 10 Posted September 1, 2009 Arma has poor sound design for a modern game, the sounds would have been great 5 years ago though however. If I produced audio to Arma standard in my work I would most likely be fired. Its amazing how modders can producer better sounds, in fidelity, quality and suitability that a professional production studio.
Alex72 1 Posted September 1, 2009 The engine has some faults that i hope will get attention. But ARMA2 sounds are better than ArmA1 for sure. Needs more variations in explosions and some more umph - but that can be done by modders. However the problems: 1. Sounds not tied to its source (Like some explosions and other sounds). 2. Mono sound when someone shoots close to you & when you yourself shoot your own weapon and turn your head its mono as well. 3. Not really a "fault", but ARMA would be so much nicer if the sound engine could handle more sounds at the same time. Sounds disapearing is an immersion killer. 4. Problem that will be fixed for sure is the beta problem now with sounds being cut short. But the engine seems to need a good look at. Im an audiophile myself and i notice these things so hard. I really hope BIS will do something about the 3 points from the top i added but im scared they will be left as is. ArmA1 and how the sound engine worked was better in two ways. You could clearly hear from where a shot/explosion was played, and there was no mono when firing your weapon (turn head left and you hear your wep on right ear etc). Hope BIS get it sorted though. Really hoping for that. Alex
