Possible weapon addon for sf teams?

Recommended Posts

The Black Op teams in OPF are loads of fun to play but lack I think the sufficient firepower for extended missions. In open land battle away from villages the Black Op stands precious little hope against rifle squads who posses much greater effective range with their Ak-74s/M-16s vs. MP-5/Bizon. One possible weapon solution to even the odds could be found in the HK21.

The HK21 is a general purpose squad machine gun capable of on the fly conversion to several different calibers; 7.62x51 NATO, 5.56mm NATO and 7.62x39mm Soviet. Meaning it is possible to use ammo from M-16s, Aks and M-60.

I know the Ak-74 is chambered for 5.56x45 but for gameplay purposes the HK21 could be converted to fire it instead of realistic 7.62x39.

Who the hell would carry all these conversion kits for HK21?

It would mean that spec ops would have to carry 3 different barrels, 3 different feed mechanisms and 3 different slides!

That must be over 50kg weight of equipment...

You can give spec ops any weapon in the editor if you don't like the mp5.

all you need is the barrels and the feed mech. and the chambers, the slide is universal for all ammo it just pushes the round in to the chamber and a pin hits the precution cap. The chambers are made so the pin will hit all cap of any ammo if you have the right chamber in.

I have to agree with this, it's just a solution looking for a problem. Strip the weapons off the blackops and equip them as you wish. Adding an M60 (or better yet, an M249 from Red's weapons pack) solves the firepower problem quite nicely.

Who would carry all those conversion kits?

According to Time Life's "Special Forces and Missions" Green Beret teams in Vietnam carried and deployed the HK11A1 which is an earlier model of the HK21.

The gunner supposedly had to only change the barrel, feed mechanism and bolt. The Hk21 is a full 5lbs. lighter than the M-60 at eighteen pounds in weight. Run out of ammo on an extended patrol and simply lift AK magazines off the enemy, make the conversion and slap in a clip; no belt required.

I think the M-60 soldier in OFP looks out of place with a Black Op team. Just a suggestion to spice the gameplay up a bit.

Interesting idea though, but I never heard anybody carrying these kits in real life. HK21 is belt-fed machine gun so probably you would also need a new empty belt for 7.62x39mm.

If situation occurs that a spec ops team runs out of ammo they would just grab dead enemy's AK47 or AK74. They probably wouldn't have time to empty the enemy clips, convert HK21 to fire 7.62x39 and reload belts with the new rounds wink.gif

The HK21 is a great machine gun used by spec ops but they dont cary all those conversion stuff with ´em...

Did you ever have a machine gun in your squad in real life?

One carries the gun, another one has carry ammo and spare barrels...

Taking with you all this conversion stuff would mean that you would have to give every one in the squad machine gun parts...

Dont forget you would also have to take with you spare barrels for every caliber...

A spec op squad shouldbe able to move fast n quietly...

try this with all this crap!

he real advantage of the HK21 is its weight, its firepower, the good barrel change and the possibility to fire single shot,3 round burst and full auto.

Together with the bipod abd the Telescopic sights often on the gun you can snipe with it...
