What does this scud look like?

Recommended Posts

Ok, I just played that seek and destroy mission a while ago.

I looked EVERYWHERE for that darn scud launcher and could not see it. Hmm. Interesting.

This is what happened, I left my men at the beginning, went through some woods to the north near the foot of that huge hill.

Saw some Spetznatz moving up the hill, waited for them to pass. Went up the hill , far up. Past where the Spetznatz were. I almost got to the tippy top of the hill, and on the western side of it. And the whole way through kept on looking for that scud with my binoculars.

Almost a whole hour passed And I was far up on that hill. I searched everywhere with my binoculars. My in game character had already seen it and reported it in. This is nuts. I almost thought that I saw it, but that was only a gaurd tower in a patch of trees.

By the way, noone tell me where it is, I still wanna find it if I can.

Anyways, I got a question. Next time I play, I am planning on spotting the scud (not with my eyes, but have the in game player report its position), then somehow destroying the 2 shilkas there via either some satchels or by my 2 AT men.

Then I will call in the helicopters in hopes that they destroy the scud launcher. With the shilkas out of the way, they should have no opposition, right?

Then if they want they can destroy any other tanks that they want. Or vise versa. Then I can call in the other tanks if I wish to take out any other opposition.

My question is, can the choppers target and shoot the scud launcher?

You went up the hill and almost an hour had passed ? Really ? Everytime I played that mission, I got an update shortly saying that Russians have probably detected me (even though I was still away and haven't fired a shot) and their launch time is now about 10 minutes away (if I remember correctly). I'm pretty sure you don't have the 1 hour with which you start the mission with.

I won't tell you where the SCUD is, though I will say it isn't easy to find.

To answer your question, I never tried letting the choppers take out the SCUD, there is plenty of tanks around for them to waste their missiles on. Besides, those Spetz Natz (did I spell that right ?) will detect you eventually even when crawling, so planting Satchels at the two Shilkas should give you a great challenge.

What I do (and it seems to work each time) is climb that hill (without shooting anyone) and since I already know the SCUD is visible from that hill (this doesn't mean I've told you where it is, because there are very few spots on that hill from which the SCUD is actually visible, though very barely), I get myself ready. I call in the friendly Tanks and Choppers. This is because if I shoot the LAW at the SCUD, those Shilkas will spot me and kill me, no matter where/how fast I run. So when I call the choppers, I know those Shilkas will be busy shooting them down, that way they won't bother with me as I destroy the SCUD.

After that I make a getaway to the other side of the mountain where I already have one of my soldiers in the cargo truck waiting.

Ba da bing, ba da bum. For an operation that starts out as covert I surely ended it that way, Ruskies never know what hit them. Besides, HK is a close-combat weapon, not the type you use to try and hit a guy 500 meters away, so whenever I play Special Op missions, i try and keep that HK tucked in, hoping to never use it. smile.gif

If its the mission im thinking off, (i've not played it in a while), I took the jeep you get at the start of the mission, drove down to where your helecopters are on the map, borrowed one, and then destroyed the Scud.

I love this game.

Lol I got past that mission by sheer luck, I still have no clue where that damn SCUD is but one of the Cobras I called in took it out before the last remaining Shilka nailed it

Just so you know what you're looking for, the Scud is a truck with the big fat missile on the back.

Heres a strat for the next two missions;

39. SEARCH AND DESTROY

The SCUD is at Eb53. Leave your squd behind and go for it on your own. Take a LAW with you at gear selection! Sneak your way through enemy lines until you've made contact with the SCUD. Take it out with the LAW. Now immediately switch back to your main weapon and GET OUT OF THERE. Guba's goons will be mad as hell.

40. RED DAWN

Again take the M21 and a anti-tank launcher (I'd prefer the RPG this time, because you're more likely to run into ammo for this one in Russian territory; well you probably won't needit anyway). You also won't need your squad on this one. Take one guy with you into the jeep and let the others have a nice vacation. Proceed along the souther road and turn right at Eh51. Stop shortly before the base at Ed/Ee46 and snipe the guards. Drive into the base andmount the fuel truck. Take it outside to the Hind. Mount the Hind and take your friend with you as gunner(that's why you brought him all the way up here). Now take off and head northeast. Use the guided rockets to dispose of the Shilkas. Evade their AA-fire by shaking left an right and use it to locate their position and target them. Once you've spotted the SCUD (it's in the north of sector Ih20), take it out. Now descend a little and fly back west along the northern road until you spot a moving UAZ. This is Guba. Head east again, land and setup an ambush. Hide somewhere with a good view on the road. When Guba arrives snipe the driver (be careful not to hit Guba!wink.gif. Two SpetzNatz will exit the car, kill them too. Now run up to Guba and watch his despair.

Take that, and you wont have a problem.

The best wayI found to get that damn scud is to get a law launcher at the start and go to the top of the big hill (watch out for Spetz Natz You might want to leave a couple of men up the side of the hill to let you know when the spetz natz are about to pay you a visit) then i used my binos to find the scud it's normally hidden behind some trees and wiped it out with a LAW. the worst bit is that as soon as you neutralize the scud a shilka starts emptying it's guns on you so you have to be pretty quick getting out of sight of the tanks smile.gif

Definitely go up the hill. Watch for spetz natz, as they have an irritating habbit of intruducing Mr.Bullet to the back of Mr.Cranium. Go into the editior and play with a scud, and then you'll know what your looking for.

Ok, I got another question. if both the shilkas get taken out beforehand, then there will be nothing to oppose the choppers, right?

There are more than two Shilkas. Can't remember exactly how many, but there are at least 3.

You're right random. There are 3, I believe now.

Just beat that level. Man that was intense.

Finally found the scud.

I didn't get in the choppers or call in ANY reinforcements.

All I did, was get on the hill close to the scud. Left all of my men at base except for my Carl Gustav man. He came with me. I didn't want to carry a big tube launcher. It would be hard to be stealthy. We got to the scud site. And I told him to blow it up, while I got a little far away. As soon as he did it, I told him to regroup, but then he died. I managed to get out. That level took some time. It's intense levels like this that make you get mad at every bug in your game. Because then is when they come up.

Now onto the next one.
