I'm not sure why you'd no longer be the platoon commander.... Does this happen in a specific mission, or in every mission? Like edc said, if you just use the 'To Driver's Seat' command in the action menu, you'll switch to the driver's seat, but you'll still act as commander -- you can right click on targets to make your gunner target them, but you'll be able to drive the tank as well. This is what I always do.

I thought the Red Hammer missions were some of the most enjoyable ones I've played. They weren't realistic at all, but they were really fun to play.

I don't know why people didn't like Red Hammer. I thought they were some of the most fun missions made for the game.

I didn't use the extra tanks in this mission. I just equipped a few guys with sniper rifles and a couple with machine guns and got the snipers to crawl into a postion to overlook the town, then made them target crew members standing besides their tanks. Then call in the tanks groups. If you can take out all the crew members standing there (particularly the T-80 crew), you won't have to worry about them and you'll even be able to steal a brand new T-80 to mop up the troops with. Just take enough snipers to kill the crew members and RPG soldiers and your tanks should be able to handle the reinforcements and you won't have to worry about killing your own guys.

Make sure all the tanks are properly destroyed. Sometimes the tanks (T-80s in particular) are damaged enough for the crew to get out and they will turn to a white square on the radar, but they don't count as 'dead'. Put some extra shells into the tanks to make sure they're all dead. Make sure there's no infantry hiding anywhere as well.

And you destroyed the Vulcans before this? If so, I'm not sure. I haven't seen this happen before, but maybe you need to rocket strafe some targets to make sure they're really destroyed.

There are lots of threads on this. Do a search for: red AND dawn Typed just like that, and search in the OPF missions forum from the beginning. You'll get lots of different strategies.

If it still doesn't end, you've run into a pretty common bug. Search Avon Lady's FAQ for 'pathfinder'.

It's worth buying anyway, in my opinion. The ammo bug is easily fixed and the missions are very enjoyable. I'm sure a patch will be out before long anyway.

I don't know... Using an invincible tank seems a bit like cheating to me. I like the desperation of scrambling about grabbing weapons wherever possible while waves of tanks are trying to get into the town, setting off land mines while you're digging around in an ammo crate trying to re-arm your AT launcher. The mission was a great adrenalin rush.

Yeah, this is a pretty bad bug. What works for me is to hold down the ascent key (Q) the whole time the cutscene is playing. When the cutscene ends, I'm usually high enough up to regain control of the chopper. Also, make sure your nose isn't pointed downwards when the cutscene starts.

I've always used the truck in this mission. The keys you get from the guy are for the truck, but they might be the same for the car, I guess.

Or just use the cheat to unlock the campaign (search Avon's FAQ for that too) then revert back to the mission you were on.
