Plane ejection seat kills one and injures 6 others

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN EJECTION SEQUENCE

THE minute the black-and-yellow handles are yanked, the cockpit canopy is blown clear by explosive bolts, the legs and arm restraints pull the pilot's limbs in as the solid rocket motors kick in.

A pilot weighing 72kg will suddenly find himself weighing 1,089kg as 15Gs (or 15 times the force of gravity) slam into his body. His spinal column gets compressed, his vision blurs and his face sags.

During the initial acceleration, he feels like a hippo had just sat on his head. Anything not strapped in will be snapped like a twig.The whole sequence takes just 0.4 seconds.

The incident in Butterworth, while rare, is not uncommon.

However, most of the cases can be attributed to human error.

That isnt a rule, thats yer personal opinion. Theres no reason whatsoever why I should stop posting pics, its not hurting anyone.

Posting pics instead of actually making some kind of comment is lame and pointless, yes that's my opinion, and it's the opinion that I, a moderator on this forum have.

If you need to be told everything in rule format as if we're back at school then here you go.....

"New rule: If you don't have anything valid to say in a post don't make the post, simply posting an image with a message contained in the image is pointless and not acceptable, it's just the same if not worse than spamming and will be dealt with as such."

Back to the topic at hand..

This guy should get a Darwin Award.  I mean, come on!  I am not an aircraft mechanic, but even I know that you should have lots of pins on big streamers running from the safeties on the seat... and I certainly wouldnt go to work on an ejection seat without all those pins in place!

I can just imagine it...

And not to mention that you have to pull the two handles by you leg or by your head, and if you fail to pull 2 handles, all it does is depresserize( you hear a loud bang)but you can always pull the other handle then it does the launch sequince.Also there are pins in the handles to, to keep it from being pulling back accedently but are taken out before flight.there is also a thing on the outside of the plane which you pull back 6 feet and it does the same.Its used when the pilot passes out inside the cockpit. smile.gif

Actually, once the safety pins (all of them) are removed from the seat, all that needs to be done is for the Co-pilot or Pilot to pull EITHER the handle above their head, or the handle by their chair (usually at the side of the chair or between the Pilots legs) and the canopy will be blown off, and then all ejection seats in the aircraft will be launched.

In an emergency they only have a split second to decide whether or not to eject, they don't have time to pull several handles to eject.

Depending on what typr of airplane to.Some you have to pull 2 handels some you dont.Its a safty future.Plus all you do is pull both handles at the same time, nothing hard to it, just do it at the same time.I read that a pilot after coming back with battle damage, he had to manually lower the gear, which is near your legs (depending) and he accedently pulled one handle, some how he got some thing caught in it and it pulled back, then he heard a loud bang (depresserizing) thinking he was going to get shoot out and just paused there thinking that the rest of the launch sequince was going to start but it didnt, then he slid carfully back and he pushed the handel back down.So it depends. smile.gif later
