Texture detail and Video memory..where are the High settings?

Recommended Posts

I'm running this game on a x64Vista Quad system, 8GigRam and 285GTX.

I noticed most of you are talking about high settings when it comes to TExture detail and Video memory.

I only have two settings...Low and Normal. I don't see any higher settings.

Where can I change them into High?

I've been tweaking this game more then i played it.

Please help me understand.

Strange, High and Very High settings are available in the Options - Graphic menu in the game. Try updating your GPU drivers, directx and, of course, the game, unless you havent done so yet.

I've seen a lot of people asking the same question in different threads but noone seems to know the answer.

The game still looks nice but somehow I have the idea that i'm missing something.

I'm on 186.18 drivers.

Isn't there a way to access those settings trough the config files?

You can access the config file through Documents and Setting (ArmA2.cfg). Make sure you disable the "Read-Only" function before rewriting the file and allowing the "Read-Only" once you finish (otherwise your settings will be rewritten by the game).

it's a problem that some people get with anything past the 182.50 drivers. roll back to these (or before) and the options should return.

I think i have the latest patch. I'm playing this game through Steam.

I've tried all kinds of different configs mentioned by others, still I can't see anything better then low and Normal. No high or very high.

I see. I didn't knew that...thanks for the answer.

In that case i'm waiting for a fix. The rest of my games look and play awesome.

I"m not prepared to roll back just to access those settings.

Can anyone confirm? Is this a driver issue?

Sometimes if your viewdistance is way high and or other options are VH, then some others will be lower with noway to adjust them up...

It is.

The 190.38 and 190.40 address it AFAIK.

JFTR, I didn't like them at all and will stick with 182.50. Some people have no trouble with them so your best bet is to try them and see.

There's really little point to high and very high texture settings anyway so you aren't missing out. If you set to low you lose the sky of all things, so that's a no-go right away. Once you start pushing up to high and very high the only thing that really seems overly affected is the quality of the leaves in the trees. Actual textures (roads etc) don't seem terribly different. "Normal" seems to be about all you need.

I find that putting "Texture Detail" above "Normal" can cause texture lag etc. It's ok to put it higher than normal if you are away from built up areas but in Cherno, it causes problems in my experience.

Right folks..thanks.

Yea it's not really bad looking in Normal.

Altho there's something not quite right with the graphics. Don't know exactly what it is but sometimes my textures won't load and the skins look like dirt...It happens a lot when i'm moving into towns.

That's texture lag. There needs to be some optimization via the upcoming patch to clean that up a little.

I find it very minimal when texture detail is set to normal.
