Disappointing

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently purchased Arma2 and I could not believe it does not run well on my system. My question is should it? You all seem very knowlegeable on this site. When I load the game it takes for EVER for the textures to load. My system is

intel Q8200 quad core

8-GB memory

Vista64

2x512mb 9500GT (SLI)

750GB SATA hard drive

The developers that make this game should have to answer to all it extremly loyal fans on this issue I see so many having problems.

Does anyone have any suggestions I could try?

Thank you

Search the forums, many have the same issues as you have.

It's a bug with 8GB of Ram, as mentioned, start the game with -winxp on your shortcut until a patch is released.

That said, the 9500GT's will most likely struggle with Arma 2, not meaning to sound insulting in any way but you have a really good system and it's a pity to see it wasted with those 9500GT's (they're extremely weak compared to the rest of your system)

You could consider upgrading to something like the 295's or 275's, or if you wanted to go cheaper you could go for the ATi 4870, or for even cheaper yet go for the 9800GT (the 9800GT is cheap and should give you about double performance in most cases)

1) Check to see if Sli is being activated during the game.

Right Click Desktop>NVIDIA Control Panel>3D Settings> Show Visual Indicators

Start up ARMA2 and see if you get any green bar activity.

If you don't get any find the posts in this forum that show how you can get it activated. It should be in the stickied threads here (NVIDIA ONE, check towards the end of the first post and any other tips in that post are worth a try like max pre-rendered frames = 8 etc). If you see anything like EVGA Sli patch or Nhancer then you are on the right track. (I use Nhancer, the EVGA sli patch didn't work with me after I converted to Win7 from Vista64)

2) Search the forums for disabling V-sync, this gives significant improvement. (Stickied Threads) Also download Fraps so that you can check to see if your FPS aren't getting an upper locked limit of 60FPS (meaning, V-sync is ON). This is best checked by looking at the FPS at the main menu.

3) Some people found that disabling PhysX GPU acceleration via the NVIDA Control Panel Helped.

4) Check that your Fillrate is 100%, meaning, in your ARMA2 in game video settings the 3D Resolution is the same as the other resolution.

5) Some people found that rolling your NVIDIA Drivers back to 182.5 helps. But I don't know how well these same people are performing with the latest 190.38s, sorry.

6) Make sure everything else is up to date on your computer. LOL and the game.

7) Install Windows 7 RC version as a dual boot. Or better yet XP. (XP seems to be the best OS for this game) (Significantly)

8) (NOT A FIX) Turn Terrain detail down to Normal and fiddle with Object Detail. (These settings make the biggest difference)

9) Fiddle with the start up parameters like timRiceSE said... -winxp... -maxmem=2048... -cpucount=4 (these never did anything for me)

10) Apparently (according to recent posts) a patch is on its way soon (maybe within a week) so stay tuned for that. But don't hold your breath!

oh snap I didnt read your post properly...

points... 6)...7)...8)....9)

Texture loadings I think are cpu related, so all that nonsense about nvidia stuff.. ignore it.

And do these texture loading problems happen all the time? or just in the big missions like Red Razor and that?
