One cannot win the war on terror with brute force alone. If this initiative adresses the need to do something about poverty the future of fanatical religious following will have a harder time (I hope). Furthermore, I believe there are lots of negative "vibes" on this forum nowadays.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted March 18, 2002 Giving aid to other countries is great, as long as we keep in mind that we have plenty of people in our own country who need aid.

I am not talking about "taking" from the rich and giving to the poor in a "Robin Hood" kind of way, but rather that the ones with less is secured the same rights to good schools, medical treatment etc. One has to accept that there will always be differences between people of one's society, and really - it should be like that because it will make people strive for something better than what they currently have. But basic rights must be equal though. Of course, something is wrong when an ordinary employee has to pay much more in taxes than stinking rich people. A bit difficult though because if the ordinary man has more money to spend - the prices will go up! Difficult one. But not really a good reason to abolish foreign aid. ralphwiggum 6 Posted March 18, 2002 another reason why he's called a dumbass...look at his expression anyway, I'll predict that there will be assholes that will claim that US's contribution of books is another way of US brainwashing poor innicent children. on domestic(US) side, if Bush did not waste expected budget surplus on his tax cut, we would be able to afford more programs like these. but let's hope this works out ok.
