Guest Posted July 19, 2009 (edited) Hey fellas, Being as this is the off topic thread i thought it would be ok to post this here. For anyone who knows about motorsport in some way or form, you will know that John Surtees was the only man in the world to win in both Formula One and Moto GP. This was back in the days when if you crashed, you were going to die in a fireball. However, John survived and went on to retire and have his son, Henry Surtees. Today in a race at brands hatch, the Formula 2 car ahead of Henry crashed into the barrier, one of its wheels was launched across the track. As henry drove past the accident, the wheel struck him in the head and knocked him out instantly. Take note a rear wheel from a formula 2 car is so heavy you would barely lift it, and it hit him at 120+mph. Sadly Henry died in hospital about 1 hour ago. He was a rising talent and would probably break through to F1, its a real shame to see someone killed in motorsport in such modern times. R.I.P Henry I know this isn't strictly on (off) topic, but i know a few of you on these forums share the same passion in motorsport as i do. I just thought it would be nice to post in memory of Henry. Regards, Rich. ---------- Post added at 11:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:41 PM ---------- For anyone interested this is the video of what happened. Look at the rear wheel of the car that initially crashes. If you watch closeley you will see the tyre hit Henry in the head. Such a freak accident :( Edited July 20, 2009 by Guest
Pyronick 21 Posted July 19, 2009 (edited) It seems he was the one with the highest chance of getting that Williams F1 test drive. But this is racing, and even though there hasn't been much tragedies since the big one in 1994 it still IS one of the most dangerous sports on earth. You don't wear a 6 point sabelt, fire retardant overall, undies, socks, balaclava, a crash helmet and a HANS device for nothing. This is the only real downside of open cockpit cars, you are vulnerable for flying debris. But I think that a more stiff neckprotector could have saved him. It's just a shame he is so young... But even in 60 cc mini karts you can have fatal accidents. I don't hope this is the end for the brand new Formula 2 series. Rest in peace! JdB 151 Posted July 20, 2009 Rest in piece! Might want to check your grammar in such a sensitive case as this, especially if it's an accident, and you use the word "piece" instead of "peace" ... R.I.P.

Please excuse me, I often make this mistake and overlook it.English is not my native language, but it does sound a bit of a melancholy mistake.
