tobmic 10 Posted July 17, 2009 Hello. I upgraded my pc to make the game playable. Upgraded to a Phenom 9950 X4 @2.6ghz(will overclock when getting better cooler) , bought a Powercolor HD 4870 (1gb) and a new PSU (750W). The performance is okay but not enjoyable and now im thinking to get a second HD 4870 for Crossfire. Will i get a huge performance increase ? Some stupid thing is that the second PCI-E slot has 8x lane and it will get downgraded not sure if it would work better. What do you think ?
ViperNL 10 Posted July 17, 2009 Dont expect a huge improvement! I have the same card in CF on one board and see no big visible improvements (higher fps) when turning cf on. Your best bet is to get a better cpu, or OCing it further. Though i really have no problems running this game @ very high. It hardly ever drops below 30.. What are your settings and fps? tobmic 10 Posted July 17, 2009 That with overclocking CPU i gonna wait for a better cooler right now this is the cooler from Boxed 9950 and it runs very hot.Wanna oc with new cooler to 3ghz. I can play very high in all settings (fillrate 133% and Antialiasing off). When having to many AI units on mission or when im in town the fps drops down alot. In regular i have 30+fps but it drops down to around 20 when in city....
S7_Mega 10 Posted July 17, 2009 Sounds about right for your system.
thr0tt 12 Posted July 17, 2009 The only way to get the game running smooth is by luck or get the system built by BI, as there are so many folk here that cannot get it working as it should here but the lucky ones can (some with exactly the sme setup cannot). I suggest BI sell an ArmA II PC that they tested the game on b4 sending you the machine, I would say no point buying more hardware seems a bit extreme really. tobmic 10 Posted July 17, 2009 well yes its abit weird that ppl reporting with high end-computers that they cannot get the game running with good performance. I hope BIS is releasing a performance patch :- )
rogue221 10 Posted July 17, 2009 (edited) I have a 4870 x2, I7 920 tried it stock and OCed to 3.6ghz. 6 gigs ram, Vista 64, same results. 35 to 45fps in open areas 15 to 25 in the woods or in towns, with or without CF. All settings on very high, 2k view distance, no AF at 1680x1050, anything higher results in unplayable performance I guess I cant complain as I see people with more powerful rigs getting worst performance, and I dont get that bad of texture problems most are having.
