Azamato 0 Posted July 15, 2009 Hi I'm about to buy a new pc this week wich will have AMD Phenom x2 II550 320HDD 4GB DDR2 800mhz kingston value OCZ StealthXStream 500W PSU Asus Case And a 760G Mobo with HD3100 onboard And the plan was to put my current 9600GT card in it. first question: - Will this work easly? And what i got to do ? - My PSU is good? Also lately when I play games like Crysis Warhead after 20 minutes my monitor goes standby but pc is still running. I was told on a gaming forum that it was my PSU. My current specs are P4 3.0ghz HT 2GB DDR2 A 420W without a brand I think theres no name on the psu itself. And a Club 3D 9600GT 512DDR3 So I want to use the card on my new pc so I hope it's not the card's fault. So what is it then? The weather is warm and then it happens most and my psu is getting warmer when playing games. So help me :D I didnt see a Tech trouble thread so Im sorry if this is wrong here. InFireBaptize 0 Posted July 15, 2009 go with higher PSU wattage in case you do SLI/cross fire in the future or buy a power hungry card, i suggest 750W to be safe and to avoid upgrades.
EDcase 87 Posted July 15, 2009 (edited) -Make sure the HDD is fast (7200rpm 16mb cache) -Don't know about CPU so can't comment. -Ram: 4Gb is plenty (ArmA2 only needs 2Gb) but 800mhz is slow. Try to get 1600mhz if compatible with motherboard -Gcard:9600GT will struggle badly. Look at GTX260 or HD4890 -PSU 500W is fine but for better cards mentioned above 600W would be plenty (unless you want to go Xfire or SLI) Monitor going blank: Don't know if its PSU related Check that its not overheat. Azamato 0 Posted July 15, 2009 thx but what about the standby problem? if its my psu thats weak ok good, but if its the video card im screwed :(
Bulldogs 10 Posted July 16, 2009 It may be the video card but not likely as you should see artifacts in games (weird lines all over the place) if the card is the problem.] Check the connections at the back, make sure the VGA/DVI cable is screwed in to both the monitor and card (but not too tight), also make sure that all components in your computer are properly secured and installed correctly (for example, make sure you have enough standoffs under your motherboard so it's not getting near the case and the PCI cards are making accurate contact. While running a game, run some temperature monitoring programs in the background to monitor the temps of your CPU and Graphics card, then alt-tab from Crysis to check the temps occasionally. It does sound like the PSU is the likely culprit. That PSU shouldn't have any issues running your game, but if your PSU is starting to die then that could be the cause, but it's cheaper to check everything else first.
