Trenchfoot 10 Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) Operation Foothold is a coop mission for 1 to 20 players (5 man squads). The theater of operations is Chernarus. USMC attacking RUSSIAN controlled territory. Status: Finalizing Features -Dawn coastal assault from small island using RHIBs -Ammunition crates contain all available weapons -Moving respawn point as operation progresses -Detail oriented design (unit by unit) and helpful briefing text -Some randomness to add replay value -Upon capture of the airstrip, access to select armor, aircraft and other facilities -Optional objectives and most towns in SW Chernarus are lightly occupied by the ennemy forces for search and destroy -Much more to discover Operation Objectives First Objective: Capture Port Balota - Travel West from Galova Island along the coast but keep a good distance from the shore. Make a beach landing at one of the suggested landings near your destination. You may then make your way on land to capture Port Balota. Second Objective: Destroy Radio Tower - As a prelude to an all out assault on Balota Airstrip, take out the main Radio Tower. This is vital to preventing the ennemy from calling in reinforcements not to mention preserving the element of surprise in our next objective. Failure to destroy the Radio Antenna before assaulting Balota Airstrip may have dire consequences! (hint: any explosive should do the trick) Third Objective: Capture Balota Airstrip - With the commmunications tower destroyed, the ennemy can not call for reinforcements or report our presence. We can now capture Balota Airstrip and plan the next phase of our operation. Final Objective: Attack Chernogorsk - We have laid the groundwork for this main assault on the manufacturing city of Chernogorsk. Eliminate ennemy assets and capture the city of Chernogorsk. This will deal a severe blow to ennemy production capabilities. Expect to perform house-to-house combat as you clear the city unless you utilize armor or air strikes to burn it to the ground! Optional Objectives: -Optional: Perform a surprise attack on the main ennemy airbase in the North. Destroy their air force as it sits on the tarmac! -Optional: Perform a surprise attack on the ennemy tank depot in the city of Elektrozavodsk. Destroy their armor as it sits idle! Note on Optional Objectives: Bypassing these two may end up with you receiving some inbound ennemy reinforcements (which are tracked on your map) but it's nothing you can't handle right? -Communications chatter indicates Ennemy Armor inbound! -Communications chatter indicates Ennemy Aircraft inbound! To Do: - Not sure if civilians are necessary but they would add alot to the atmosphere. - Bug fixing (need testers!) - Suggestions? Please download co20 Operation Foothold V1.3b from Armaholic I welcome any feedback, enjoy this! Edited July 10, 2009 by Trenchfoot

Hiramas 10 Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) ok, First looks like nice work, but right at the start there are a few bugs. When I start the map, the first thing is: Everyone is getting killed and respawns. multiple times.... The KI is nuts (as usual). Either remove the KI, or just complete the used Squads if that's possible (just when there is a player in the squad) edit: even my squad-KI is insane Oo My number 4 is dead and the me-KI constantly calls for him. Suggestion: A better Place for the Start of the mission. A concrete-platform in the middle of nowhere? I Suggest an Island or so (don't know what the editor offers you there) As nice at it is to have an "officer", the uniform is not really practical for battle. Maybe replace it with Squadleader or so, make them a Sgt and give them a proper outfit ;) last addition for now: Some SpecOps Equipment which fits the mission better than a M16 So. Im going to continue testing now. But looks like there's a great basis :) Edited July 9, 2009 by Hiramas

Trenchfoot 10 Posted July 9, 2009 (edited) I have made some changes for V1.1: - Players now start on a small island East of the objective instead of a barge. (watch out for coastal gun emplacements on your way to the landing!) - Modified squad ranks and player models to remove officers. - Weapon crates now contain all possible weapons and ammo - Weapon crates were placed on the starting island so you can select whatever loadout you wish. - Populated more towns. - Disabled AI players in MP. Trracer 10 Posted July 10, 2009 Me and a bunch of my friends tried out your mission today (the 1.0 version). I think you are on the right track, especially with the 1.1 changes! But maybe you could turn down the fog quite a bit? It makes the air units quite unusable and you can hardly see anything at all.
Trenchfoot 10 Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) Thanks for your feedback. A new version is now released: V1.2. Changes: - Removed fog and improved weather. - General improvements and fixes. Edited July 10, 2009 by Trenchfoot
Trenchfoot 10 Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) Fixed some triggers not working in MP. Up to V 1.3 now. Edited July 10, 2009 by Trenchfoot

I would definitely agree with the fog, good to see it patched up in 1.2. It makes for great atmosphere, but it's not terribly fun to play with vs AI. Only cleared out the landing so far, but that was a lot of good fun. Looking forward to giving 1.3 a go. Keep it up!
BD1 0 Posted July 10, 2009 Interesting... This is basically the exact same mission I created for ArmA1 called "Operation Foothold" based on the island of Rahmadi, with insertion by boat and exactly the same target layout... Get any inspiration from my mission for this? ;)
Hiramas 10 Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) I honestly don't know if they where there before, but clear objectives are missing. There are just this casual markers. No mission-markers no objective description edit: in the matter of the moving respawn point: there is no respawn in your current version ;) (your desicion, but in such a long mission it might be useful to have respawn) Edited July 10, 2009 by Hiramas
Trenchfoot 10 Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) Nope TG-22ND, this mission was designed without basing it on another mission. That's kinda weird actually. Hiramas! I forgot to package the scripts with the mission! I think my next mission will be dead simple, with one objective hehe. Please download co20 Operation Foothold V1.3b from Armaholic Thanks for giving this another go Hiramas. Edited July 10, 2009 by Trenchfoot
BD1 0 Posted July 10, 2009 Very Weird!!! You know what is even more strange is the fact that a player named "trenchfoot" has played on our tacticalgamer.com server that hosted my mission for the last 10 months! Strange how there are so many similarities? Maybe I should download the mssion and see if the coincidence continues to the briefing as well? Anyway, glad to see the concept was obviously a popular one!
Trenchfoot 10 Posted July 10, 2009 (edited) TR-22ND: The briefing text is found in the initial post. It is highly doubtful that this text is remotely similar since I was not exposed to the mission you speak of :) Unfortunately I did not see your mission named "Operation Foothold" on Armaholic or else I would have named it differently! On that note, the next mission I will be working on may have "foot" in it as well LOL (Operation Athletes Foot - Objective: Run from one side of Chernarus to the other and back). This is in fact my first mission for Arma2 and have never played Arma1. I've only been playing Arma2 for a few weeks. Hope you help test out this mission so I can perfect the art. BD1 0 Posted July 10, 2009 Never mind not a huge issue, was just incredibly surprised at all the similarities. You evidently have a clone running around out there from the ArmA1 days. Maybe I should post the missions I create on Armaholic, I have always just uploaded them to the TG servers and never really considered releasing them. I'll take a look at the mission and give you some suggestions if I see any.
chespace 10 Posted July 12, 2009 Where do I install this mission after I extract it? Sorry, ArmA 2 newb here. :)
Trenchfoot 10 Posted July 12, 2009 (edited) You may place the .pbo file in \arma 2\MPMissions for multiplayer access or \arma 2\Missions for single player access. Edited July 12, 2009 by Trenchfoot
