How to create a CTF Map (arma2)

Recommended Posts

Hey...

I hate to make a new thread, because I know for a fact one already exists. But you have to give me credit. I searched for it for an hour so it's not like I wasn't looking.

So here it is lol, and if anyone can help out, thank you so much...

I want to try mission editing, and the first thing I want to try is making a CTF map for Arma2. I can't find any tutorials on how to do this, nor threads. I used the search key, couldn't find anything, tried everywhere.

I'm probably just not good at looking for stuff but I have been hunting this for an hour so I assume that it's okay to make a new thread in this situation. There is so much info on this place that it's impossible to find specifics sometimes.

Thank you, for anyone willing to put in their two cents on this.

Search for DST. Download his CTF missions.

Unpack with cpbo, study and adapt the code.

I unPBO'd the supplied CTF template, the one that ships with the game. When I loaded it into the editor, all the locations were messed up, I had to go through the mission.sqm file and one by one copy a location for an object that was on the map to all other objects, as some were out of bounds, unable to be seen or selected.

Once I did that, I separated all the objects so that I could see them, and start moving them where I wanted them. I have a fully functional CTF map now, with respawning vehicles and fully stocked ammo crates at the bases, thanks to some of the guys here.

Once you edit the mission.sqm file to change the locations of objects to one that is on the map, you can easily drag and drop them. You may not even need to do that, but I did. The files associated with the mission, like description.ext, can be edited as well, to change things like the time and date, weather, map name, max number of players, etc. I also added a "1" to the score to win parameter, so that is now an option to choose from. Reverse engineering it wasnt that hard. Just have to get the different triggers in the right spot for everything to function.

Like the previous reply said, study and adapt the code. It wasnt that hard. If you are using the stock template as a start like I did, I can let you know where I placed the different triggers and such to get it to function.

Good luck!
