randir14 10 Posted July 4, 2009 1. Why cant I target infantry? The only way my gunner kills them is if I fly right up to them. 2. Why can tanks engage me at a greater distance than I can engage them? They'll be shooting me with their coaxial machine gun meanwhile I cant even lock on to them, even though I can see them in the distance. If I risk getting close enough to lock on they shoot me with their main gun.
An Fiach 10 Posted July 4, 2009 1. Use manual fire and fire the weapons yourself 2.Tab button swaps between targets and you have to be lined up and facing them though I'm not sure if you actually get the 'lock' diamond when using manual fire.
kocrachon 2 Posted July 4, 2009 1. Why cant I target infantry? The only way my gunner kills them is if I fly right up to them. Because in real life you cannot target infantry for the most part. Your co-pilot is suppose to vistually identify them and then engage. And in real life for the most part its nearly impossible to identify a person aside from friendly, since friendly wear IFF packs on them that illuminate them better on the FLIR screen. Technically if you have them centered on your screen and you right click on them however, you can lock on. But you cannot use tab to lock onto them. 2. If I risk getting close enough to lock on they shoot me with their main gun. Use the same right click method. Again the helicopter is not meant to really be a solo craft. And the AI is not always the best companion. I also recommend you lower the AI skill level when you place them, or turn down the difficulty level if you are doing a campaign mission. Also, fly lower, don't fly so high above ground, thats how they spot you and shoot at you so easilly.
Beagle 684 Posted July 4, 2009 Stationary vehicles with engines switched of do not appear as enemy targets. Thats why you cant see them on you FLIR/RADAR Screen. (the square thing in the upper part of the Screen) This is a nice trick to fool A.I. and Players in the game...just stay "cool and silent" until they show you the tail end or side. "Cool tanks live longer" was a slogan of a local armoured vehicle manufacturer a decade ago...it works this way in ArmA at least.
randir14 10 Posted July 4, 2009 Thanks I'm starting to get the hang of it. Just one more question, is there some way I can set the helicopter to auto-hover and then switch to the gunner seat? I just want it to stay stationary in the air so I can practice with the gun camera.

Colorblindguy 10 Posted July 4, 2009 (edited) Good,..a helicopter thread. Hiyas,..I got a helicopter question too. Heres my problem. In single player,..I have a helicopter at my disposal as transport, so I called him in to pick us up in the field, anyhow, the chopper showed up, but I can't figure out how to get him to go where I want. The pilot isn't part of my group so I can't use the fuction keys to call on him. What do I have to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated. **Update,..I figured it out. Use the editor and make both pilot and gunner playable then you can team switch from one to the other. Kind regards walker
