Vynik 10 Posted July 3, 2009 Hey all, just picked up ArmA 2 from Steam yesterday, and I've never played Operation Flashpoint or Arma 1. So, I'm routinely getting my butt kicked by the AI over and over. I am getting better, but for the time being, I was looking up hints and tips for single player. I noticed that one tip was to use the right click zoom thing to reveal targets? I noticed that in the manual, it mentioned that right clicking had a target lock or something along those lines? Anyway, whenever I attempt to do that, nothing happens. I zoom in and that's about it. I'm playing the campaign, if that makes any difference. I haven't tried Scenarios or Multiplayer. I also noticed that the squad leader can mark a target for other soldiers through commands, but is there any way he can mark one for himself? On a tough firefight, I'll routinely use the target window to identify attackers, pick one, then switch to another character so I can have the advantage of fighting a marked target. Maybe it's cheap, but I'm still learning! So, if there's anyone who can further explain the right click lock on thing and maybe a way for a squad leader to target someone for himself, that would be great. Also, I'm interested in trying out multiplayer, but I feel that this is one of those games where jumping into a quick match probably won't be all that satisfying. So are there any big groups/guild/clan types that have more organized fights? Thanks.
Andi 10 Posted July 3, 2009 For your first question: Right clicking locks on your target in vehicles, not as an infantry unit. For your second question: At least I never could figure that out either :D For your third question: Take a look in here http://forums.bistudio.com/forumdisplay.php?f=90 All the squads you could possibly imagine :p

The Squad Leader can give his squad members a target and it shows on their HUD. Squad members can spot targets for the squad leader, but you have to switch to map to see where they are. I think it is balanced this way because the commander also has his command view, which gives him very good situational awareness that the squad members do not have. You can also hold down the space bar and scan around with the "target box" for enemies, which makes locating them pretty easy. I have wondered before if it might be a nice option to have targets that are called out by squad mates appear on the HUD, but I don't think its really necessary. Part of my enjoyment of this series of games is the danger and having to be very careful, not exposing yourself and moving from cover to cover, taking time to check the map and plan your next attack or move. Too many help features start to spoil some of the appeal. In my opinion. PS: Welcome to the forum and Arma :) Edited July 3, 2009 by -=seany=-
