The red and yellow boxes don't necessarily indicate a problem -- they indicate that your system hasn't received a message for a number of seconds. This can be completely normal when a game is being set up, and the necessary data are being sent to the clients.

If all but one player are on fast broadband connections, the players with the fast connections will receive the information in a short time, and then have to wait for the dial-up player to finish receiving the data. With large .PBO files, this can result in the red and yellow boxes.

You can also try going to the DSL Reports Tools Page and run their Tweak Test to make sure that your TCP/IP connection parameters are optimized.

That sounds like a strange issue you are having..

I would try connecting directly to the server, don't use gamespy if you can help it, it is a terrible piece of software and constantly bugs you with ads.

To connect directly to a dedicated server go to www.theavonlady.org and look it up under the ofp faq.

Connecting directly to the server without gamespy running in the background may help the issue.

If you have the IP address of the server you are connecting to, try doing both a ping and a trace route from the command prompt, and see if there is a problem with one of the hops along the way.

PING -t ipaddress

and

TRACERT ipaddress

The former command will continously report the raw ping time until you press Control-C, and the later will report the number of hops to the server.

A ping of 900+ milliseconds is pretty pathetic and unusable for almost all times of online gaming, but the problem isn't with the game itself. The problem may be the fact that you have shared cable access, or it may be with a hop between your system and the server you are playing on.
