Incognito84 10 Posted June 30, 2009 This is an odd situation. I'm a former PR player and a huge fan of tactical shooters. I bought Arma 2 expecting certain forms of online behaviour and gameplay not similar but at least reminiscent of my PR experiences. What I found was quite different. It's actually quite hard for me to even get in a server; most of the servers below 200ms in the server browser are either empty or locked. Occasionally though, I do get into a server and it is in either Evolution, Domination or Warfare/Superpowers mode. I'm beginning to understand all the modes, but I'm still confused by a lot of things and when I ask for help... I either don't get an answer, or I get harrassed by my own team ("go back to COD4, noob!") I don't really see anyone working together in these modes. I hardly ever run into another non-AI even if the server has 15 people on it. My friend and I were playing Superpowers together, going from town-to-town trying to get something done. We needed to hurry so I bought a helicopter and went to pick my friend up, then when I landed I an ally fired a rocket, TKing me for absolutely no reason other than his own amusement. Maybe the audience simply hasn't matured enough yet. I keep wondering why these sorts of people choose to play Arma2 and not... COD4. The game itself is fine, I think the only real problem I have is with the players. I haven't even heard any of them communicate yet. No voice; just text and even that is very, very, very rare. If I say something to try to get some communication started, nobody replies. WTF is up with this?

Inkompetent 0 Posted July 1, 2009 That's 'ArmA release-sickness' for ya. Lots of people buying the game because it has good graphics and the word 'realism' on the DVD box, even though they shouldn't have bought the game at all to start with since they don't have the slightest intention of teamwork. Bear with them though. Since they buy the game they give BIS money so that they can support the game and make it into what has made plenty of us stick with them since the first release of OFP. Soon enough plenty of those players will be bored with ArmA2, and you'll see more and more clan and community servers pop up that will whack anyone with bad behaviour with the big Ban-Hammerâ„¢. Also when there are more proper missions around the general environment will be better. Evolution and Domination are moron-magnets, but at the moment it is (unfortunately) what most servers seem to run.
walker 0 Posted July 1, 2009 (edited) Hi Incognito84 Join a clan there is a section of the forum devoted to them including a directory with links to their websites. If you want to play on a public server. Then choose one that is adminned. Many of the clans are converting their servers from ArmA I to ArmA II most of the UK ones will be converted by about next week. US servers will be about 2 weeks after the 7th of July release, though a couple of the bigger US servers are testing now. It will still take a couple more weeks for new missions to be made, but there are already new missions going up. Some of the clans particulary those that are recruiting are putting up public recruiting servers, if they are adminned they are very good public servers to play on. ;) As I said the clans use their public servers to recruit from and also to train potential players in their ethos. They are also used to gather evidense for ban lists that are used to weed out numpties. I have been playing on public clan servers while lately, and had very good time. Sadly I have been acting a bit ronin as Zeus only have their old server at the moment and it can barely cope. As soon as Zeus get their new state of the art server up and running I can stop acting like some homeless ronnin.
