Go for it buddy :) Night and day in my experience. I have tested thouroughly over 4 different systems using drivers from 182.50 to 190.15. XP64 totally obliterates Vista/Win7 64. Smooth, flawless gameplay vs choppy gameplay and inexplicable behaviour. Eth
adavis3918 10 Posted July 6, 2009 Well, I'm installing xp 64 then. I currently have Windows 7 64bit installed and the game crashes to the desktop every 10 minutes. I spent $1,700.00 dollars last week for a new computer. Mainly because of this game. I remember back in the day playing operation flashpoint for the first time and hardly being able to run it. I didn't want that to happen again, yet, it did anyways. Regardless, Arma II is still, in my opinion, the best game ever made; until they release Arma III that is. Are you overclocking your processor at all? What I've noticed with Win7 is that it's very aware of OC'ing and what appeared to be a stable system under XP (Where I ran overclocked for a year straight with no issues), Windows 7 crashes immediatly if I'm overclocked. I have to run my processort at it's default speed. Just a suggestion in case you overclock. Also, you might want to make sure that your chipset drivers are up to date. Same thing for sound and video. Can anyone else confirm that XP64 runs that much better? My XP disk is making noise and was bluescreening last time I booted into it but I was thinking about reinstalling XP. If I should go the XP64 route, I'd rather do that. Only reason I'm about to reinstall XP onto another drive is to play ARMA. Everything else runs flawless and better under Win7
Murklor 10 Posted July 6, 2009 Windows 7 crashes immediatly if I'm overclocked. Then up the voltage... My Vista bluescreens on boot too when I overclocked my E8200 even the slightest. A bump in voltage is all it takes to run @3.2ghz 24/7. Anyway, it would be interesting to see some performance tests of XP vs Vista vs Win 7 in terms of Arma 2. I plan to spend about that to build a computer dedicated to play Battlefield 3..might to a side upgrade for Battlefield Bad Company 2..
adavis3918 10 Posted July 7, 2009 Decided not to install xp 64 yet and instead installed the 182.50 drivers and the game seems to run better; has not crashed to the desktop yet. I've been playing all evening. Perhaps it is more a Nvidia problem than Arma.

Everything else runs flawless and better under Win7 XP64 still suffers with low fps in campaign mode, but the fps is now more stable and im finding no stuttering and a smoother experience. This is mostly probably for me due to the extra ram now being available from using XP32. Install it on a spare drive and test it is my advice!
Colorblindguy 10 Posted July 7, 2009 Yep,..night and day difference,..since swithing it to xp,..I get a flux between 20 and 40 frames. With the same settings on vista I was lucky to break 20 frames. I'll post some fraps pics of both after work.
Väinämöinen 0 Posted July 7, 2009 Changed from vistax64 and from Win7x64 to XP64. Got 100 frames more: Framerate is between 30-150 (vista and win7 got somekind of cap of 60 fps): 150fps in xp64:

Got 100 frames more:Framerate is between 30-150 (vista and win7 got somekind of cap of 60 fps): 150fps in xp64: I've been saying this for weeks :p I know it's a pain to have to run a 2nd OS just for A2 but it actually worked out well as PRM doesn't work in Win 7 7264 (thanks to Punkbuster) so I killed 2 birds with one stone. Eth PS : There is no cap. You have V-sync enabled in Win7/Vista.

Tried from CCC and ATi Tray Tools but in vain. It shows its disabled but Arma2, windows or ATI still enables it. Install XP64 and its gone.
