Ketamine 10 Posted June 22, 2009 Hi, My laptop refuses to read the ARMA2 DVD. I am assuming it is because of the protection. The DVD loads fine in my other PC. Just not on this laptop. The DVD says it is a "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T20N ATA Device" in device manager. I cannot find any firmware updates for such a device on Google. I installed the game from my networked DVD on the other PC, but i can't play it as it won't start without the DVD in the local drive :( Any ideas how i can fix this? Thanks. SRRViper 10 Posted June 22, 2009 Can u network the laptop to the pc? If so then you could transfer the installation files across and then copy your registry files over and that should work
Ketamine 10 Posted June 22, 2009 I have already installed the game from the networked PC, but i cannot launch the game as it requires the DVD to be read from the local drive when you click to start the game.
kairu 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Unfortunately all of a sudden my drive has stopped reading discs also, which I only learned after inserting the Arma 2 disc in the drive... I guess it was just bad luck, was working a few days back. I extracted the contents of the disc using my laptop and moved the setup files, but I'm now stuck at the same point as Ketamine, I can't play the game because my drive won't read the disc. I'm slightly paranoid about why the same random occurence has happened to someone else, plus my device name for the drive in device manager has gone all screwy...I don't remember exactly what it was to begin with, but I'm so sure it wasn't a bunch of random letters and numbers like it is now. ---------- Post added at 10:46 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:00 AM ---------- Edit button where art thou, I'm tired and have read the OP wrong, my drive works for NO discs at the moment. I guess I don't have to worry about it being a freak coincidence anymore, so that's a relief. Regardless I can't play the game like OP because the disc can't be read. Sorry for the double post. Double posts are merged, cool.

Sorry BIStudios, Im not trying to hurt you or something, just trying to help the guy get his DVD-Rom working again.
subtee 0 Posted June 23, 2009 Didnt want to create a new topic for this question so im gonna ask here, Stupid question but have to ask: Im new to this securom thing (Arma 1 did not have it) Does this securom thing mean that the disc must be in the dvd-drive every time i play arma 2? linuxares 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Does this securom thing mean that the disc must be in the dvd-drive every time i play arma 2? Yes, until/if its patched away like they did in Arma 1.
subtee 0 Posted June 23, 2009 Yes, until/if its patched away like they did in Arma 1. Ok, wasn't sure about that. Thanks for the info. Much appriciated.
Ketamine 10 Posted June 23, 2009 Well both Securom and 505Games have responded to support requests about this, but neither of them have provided any kind of solution. So purchased a game i can't play as the DVD won't load. Totally sucks :( Please release a no securom exe so those of us with incompatible drives can play the game we paid for... JayCee 10 Posted July 4, 2009 Same problem here, my computer cannot read the DVD. My wife's ancient laptop could read the DVD so I copied the DVD into an external HD and installed ArmA2 into my computer from there. But then off course ArmA2 wont' launch because the DVD cannot be read. My question is: will this game be patched so I don't need the DVD in the drive or rather this will never happen and I am in for a refund? Cheers,
JayCee 10 Posted July 5, 2009 Okay, I got it to work. I had to update my DVD drive's firmware.
