Crashing and Hard Lock

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I bought this game today and the install went fine. Loading up the game was fine and after fiddling with the settings I got a reasonable framerate with good graphics.

I played for a little bit, then the game crashed, with the image on the screen kind of split into its components if that makes sense, like red green and blue all split but next to each other. The audio continued a second after I tried alt-tab, but then it completely locked up and I had to restart my PC.

Now to me this sounds like an overheating problem, however I have had not problems with other game slocking up like this, including crysis.

I then thought it must be due to windows 7, so I updated drivers, same problem. Next idea for me was my Vista partition, so I loaded that up, reinstalled and it locked up in the damaged building in intro in the first mission. I have tried a few times and every time I get a hard lock up of my system within a short amount of time.

Any ideas?

I will post my dxdiag in the next post, as I stated, I am aware this is Win 7, but it was even more prevalent in my vista OS.

Do not post dxdiag reports please, the majority of the information it contains is not overly useful and the excess length of it makes the thread unworkable, please manually post the most pertinent information yourself.

Ok sorry most places ask for it if you dont post it.

My specs are:

E8400 3.0Ghz (stock)

4GB ram

8800GT (factory overclocked its the BFG OC2 one)

Would this problem be caused by a lack of VRAM? since The 8800 doesn't have so much, should I try and reduce the Video memory setting on the game? (I'm a little wary to test it now, unless I get some assistance- I worry these hard resets and lock ups cant be great for my gpu, also I'm worried it could be overheating and dont want to damage the card if it is, though I dont think it should be overheating.)

Hi,

AFAIK, you should try an older driver, something like 181.71. ArmA2 and W7 don't seem to like recent drivers on older card than 2xx.

Thanks for the response. I have tried lowering the video memory option, I think it reset to very high if you change the texture setting. Played for about an hour with no crash, hopefully this is now resolved.

Did notice a couple of white sheet like artifacts, possibly to do with lighting, but far better than having a system lock up!

Will update if the problem comes back.
