Depleted 10 Posted June 19, 2009 Just another question, i know one of the the Harrier's has LGB's but how do you use them properly? Does a infantry unit paint the target with the laser marker, and the pilot see's it as like a killzone on the HUD, make a bomb run and nuke the area? Or does the bomb "lock-on" and fire automatically if you are in the correct direction?
nedley 10 Posted June 19, 2009 (edited) Not quite. Someone needs to 'paint' a target with the laser desagnator. The pilot/gunner then needs to press the target selection button (default TAB) until 'Laser Target' appears. A box will appear on the screen, where the target is. The pilot then needs to fly over the target and drop the LGB at the precise moment the square target box has a lock (this will appear as a Square surrounded by a circle). This is of course assuming you are using actual players, not AI. With AI, you will need to be in the same group as the plane, and you will have to target with the laser yourself, then tell the AI to target (F2, 2-then laser target) and command the AI to engage (F2, 3-4 I think). Happy blasting. Edited June 19, 2009 by nedley AI Addition

wipman 1 Posted June 19, 2009 Hi, in the ArmA the AI (even not under your command) do target the Laser Designator and drop the bombs, the problem is that if those AI are x2 Harriers... booth Harriers drop all their LBGs into the same target/Laser Marker, so they're very useless in most cases. Let's C ya
Dallas 9 Posted June 19, 2009 ArmA(1) AI pilots identify the maker itself as a hostile target and will engage it with GBUs, Hellfires and AIM-9X missiles. So you don't need to be grouped. I'd love to see AI A10's lock on to lasers with their guns, it sure would be fun. Since the laser marker can't be destroyed AI keeps engaging untill you turn it off for or go winchester. If you have several planes in the air, you got to time it so only one of the planes can line up for a bombing run, release and quickly turn the laser off before the next plane lines up, if the target is destroyed. -Carry a laser designator. -Place yourself on a hill above a city -Place a flying AI aircraft with GBUs or hellfires. -Give the aircraft a seek and destroy waypoint(to keep it in the target area). -Mark something and watch it burn. Might work in ArmA2 too.
